Douglas Hart and Steve Mackey - the former Pulp bassist-turned director -&nbsp;direct a grungy promo for Hot Chip's return with Down.&nbsp;The video is a lo-fi&nbsp;affair, blending gritty textures, abstract imagery and distorted layers of oversaturated footage.&nbsp;Paying homage to early music video experimentation, the compelling performances are contrasted against unusual, seemingly unrelated vignettes, which seem more inspired by the industrial beat than any lyrical content. Federico&nbsp;Urdaneta directs 'a&nbsp;romp through Margate' for local band Pigeon - who include director Tom Dream in their ranks - featuring dancer Danni Spooner as an&nbsp;impish sea creature,&nbsp;emerging from the surf to get up to mischief in town.Spooner's elemental&nbsp;performance that provides the focus of the video for It's You, and as they&nbsp;clash&nbsp;with the locals, their energy matches the raucous drive of the track.The band also provide a foil for their antics, and as evening falls, that finally inspire a quieter moment.

A young man learns a tough lesson in Will Robson-Scott's gritty and perceptive video for regular collaborator Hak Baker.The 'Cool Kids' of Baker's songtitle are portrayed here as two teenagers from the Isle of Dogs - Baker's home area - with the involvement of one of them in local drug dealing, and his mate as his enthusiastic cheerleader. But the excitement and esteem&nbsp;that the lifestyle brings comes to a sudden end, to be replaced by cold reality, and fear.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Following the singer-songwriter and director's previous collaborations, on <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/06/12/hak-baker-dopehead-will-robson-scott/59173" target="_blank">Dopehead</a> and <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2020/04/28/crunch-ft-hak-baker-lucky-life-will-robson-scott/64483" target="_blank">Lucky Life</a>, the Cool Kids video takes a more conventionanl structure, but it resonates with palpable believability. It is partly&nbsp;due to the story arguably coming from Baker's own youthful experiences, but the execution and performances are also key to making this a riveting piece.There is an excellent dynamic between the two leads, played by Shak Benjamin and Hector Abbott - the latter acting as junior partner yet enabler of his quieter&nbsp;friend - and the&nbsp;use of a body rig by Benjamin puts the viewer at close quarters to his story, and his horrible predicament when things go wrong.As much as anything this&nbsp;is about the psychological impact of fear, which is why this is such an effective cautionary tale.[imgtoken data:2]&nbsp;

For their latest video for Hak Baker, Broken Antenna&nbsp;try something different: a mini-drama of a London wedding in the early 2000s, that brings white and black families together, shot entirely on Hi8.Hak and his band provide the entertainment as the wedding party in a local church hall gets into full swing - performing his latest ode, Venezuela Riddim. There's drinking, dancing and other stuff. Tempers fray, connections are made... and fans of Hak Baker's previous videos will not be surprised to learn that&nbsp;the charismatic troubadour&nbsp;is soon in the thick of it.&nbsp;This is&nbsp;a subtle change-up into drama for Broken Antenna - that's Myles McAuliffe and Gustav Newby&nbsp;- which&nbsp;they handle with aplomb. Everything feels right about it - the sizeable cast is pitch perfect, the use of the home video camera helps to deliver that sense of authenticity. And although the wedding is not genuine, the party probably is.An excellent addition to the Hak Baker canon by Broken Antenna, which includes&nbsp;the UKMVA-nominated <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/12/19/hak-baker-it-or-lump-it-broken-antenna/51088" target="_blank">Like It Or Lump It</a> and Wonderland.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
