And the success of the video also rests on the unexpected dramatic twist, where Earth explodes in a&nbsp;flash of red-hot flames.&nbsp;After glimpses of his past appearing in his helmet visor, the final moments are a compendium of glitchy memories that pull on the heartstrings. And we end on Neil's face in close-up,&nbsp;leaving his fate as a mystery. The result is a powerful visual, which makes the most of great VFX,&nbsp;creative cinematography and above all, an emotional core to anchor it all.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Director Ben Newbury confirms that the concept of the video was influenced by&nbsp;Alfonso Cuarón's groundbreaking movie&nbsp;Gravity&nbsp;- a film that was ten years in the making due to the need to develop the technology to make it work. By contrast, the video for Goodbye happened very quickly.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;"We received the brief for Goodbye less than 48 hours before Biffy Clyro and their team were reading a treatment - thanks to the wonderful <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/profiles/las-bandas-be-brave-1/31930" target="_blank">Andy Roberts at Las Bandas</a>."Seven days later we were at Twickenham Studios in their VP stage, with Unreal worlds built by the 'quite brilliant'&nbsp;company Quite Brilliant, lights and camera plotted and positioned by guru Thomas English, and an enormous motion control arm expertly captained by Rammi from G6, with Simon from the band in a full space suit attached to one end - with a huge grin on his face.[imgtoken data:2]"That only happens when you are working with the most fantastic young production company in London. Callum Lloyd-James directs an affecting promo for Grace Gachot's&nbsp;Built To Be Bad embodying the feeling of a world being torn apart, weathering your emotions like a storm.&nbsp;The monochromatic video opens&nbsp;with a selection of close-up shots of Gachot's performance, the camera slowly reveals a stripped-back studio setup, with windswept fabric that battles the environment before the scene settles back to a new normal.&nbsp;"As soon as I heard the song I knew I had to work on it," explains Lloyd-James. "The words were so honest and vulnerable. You can feel this power struggle going back and forth through the track.[imgtoken data:1]"For me, it was about trying to find a way to represent that battle in a way that felt dynamic and genuine. It's a track that's so personal and close to Grace's heart, I didn't want to mess around too much with the visual side of it. It was more about tapping into the raw emotion of the song and building to the point where you let it all out and explode on the second chorus."Lloyd-James says that he and Gachot spoke at length about how to do this. "And in the end we stripped the whole video back, keeping her on one mark and pulling the world down around her," he says. "This felt like a perfect way to portray the chaos and helplessness we can all find ourselves in at the end of a relationship."

Following his directing debut with (pls) set me on fire, Enter Shikari frontman Rou Reynolds directs aits sequel - another&nbsp;strongly conceptual performance video - for It Hurts.From the claustrophobic locked-off shot in his previous outing, Reynolds employs another largely one-take approach, but allows the camera to roam across a large space in which a number of random dramatic vignettes are playing out - all of which have big consequences for the participants.“In typical Shikari fashion, I threw myself in at the deep end with directing, and decided to shoot two videos in one day," explains Reynolds of the making of this and the previous video. “It was an incredibly intense experience, but we had a super-talented, passionate, focused team, and were able to get a great result.“Personally, I found it rewarding to see my ideas brought to life and create a narrative connecting the two videos. I love the attention to detail that directing allowed, and the ability to bring some of the song’s themes to life in more depth.”

Enter Shikari frontman Rou Reynolds makes his video directing debut with this powerful one-take&nbsp;promo for the band's new single, (pls) set me on fire.&nbsp;The video sees the band perform&nbsp;in an effervescent setup towards the back of an industrial location, whilst a vintage TV displays retro graphics and animated lyrics from the track on screen in the foreground.&nbsp;It's a simple yet strikingly effective&nbsp;idea, that showcases the band at their best, and uses clever composition and lighting to keep eyes darting between the two positions on-screen, in a captivating ping-pong match for viewers'&nbsp;attention.[imgtoken data:1]So a lyric video for the track may not be required. But with Reynolds breaking out of the performance near the end, to write in a notebook and then wander distractedly off-screen, suggests there is still more to come. Indeed, that is confirmed by Reynolds himself."I wanted this video - my first foray into directing! - to feel minimal and uncomplicated, but at the same time full of dynamism, and therefore the polar opposite of the next video, which is a&nbsp;bewildering romp through surrealism," he says."So there’s a simplicity here, a willingness to let the raw energy of the performance be the focus, untainted by effects or complex editing. But it&nbsp;should also be mentioned that the main function of this video is really just to set up the next one…"&nbsp;

One of the pivotal young British voices today, Pa Salieu's new&nbsp;freestyles Mista and Lennon are accompanied by a visual directed by Mickey Voak and shot by Thomas English, outside the court where he was recently on trial.The video, filmed outside of Warwickshire Combined Court, sees the young Midlands musician depict his frustrations with the court system and the personal impact that the passage of time has had on him. Pa’s best friend Fidel Glasgow was murdered during the incident back in 2018 but no one has been charged with this offence. This video was produced and shot with less than 48 hours notice and sees Pa express himself through a powerful performance.[imgtoken data:1]The video is comprised of two separate scenes, shot solely in black and white. The first a gritty guerrilla down-the-barrel&nbsp;one-shot captures Pa’s raw emotions and heartfelt sentiments. The second, shot inside a moving vehicle, captures Pa in a pensive and reflective state as he his driven away from the courtroom.Given the nature of the shoot, Voak, English and the production team at Stadium&nbsp;were working through the various challenges and time pressures. But the combination of the location and Pa Salieu's&nbsp;lyrics make for a absorbing four minutes of unfiltered performance captured in this gripping visual.

Architects' founder and drummer Dan Searle takes up the director's reins once again -&nbsp;after his excellent video for Animals - for a terrific performance video achieved in a single take.&nbsp;The premise is pretty simple:&nbsp;Architects&nbsp;are captured playing When We Were Young on a camera constantly moving around them on a circular track. It's the faultless execution that elevates the idea to the next level.With a low-key intro before the band explode into action, and a great lighting set-up to highlight the mood, the camera revolves around a pulsating performance by the band where Architects' frontman Sam Carter is always the focus of attention, the centre point in the circle the whole time.Beautifully shot by Thomas English, this is a really excellent&nbsp;performance video. The band's drummer really knows what he's doing.&nbsp;&nbsp;
