Originally commissioned and premiered at the Museum of Modern Art, New York as part of&nbsp;the Björk&nbsp;retrospective that ended on June 7th, this epic, ten-minute video for&nbsp;Björk&#39;s Black Lake by her regular collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang&nbsp;has finally been released online.It features a raw, candid&nbsp;performance by the ever-captivating&nbsp;Björk, enhanced by the&nbsp;rugged backdrop of her native Iceland&#39;s&nbsp;natural wonders. Caves, molten blue lava, and desolate&nbsp;green meadows assist in the pained&nbsp;expression conveyed by an ardent performance.&nbsp;

She was briefly wrongfooted by having to rush its release a few weeks ago, but now&nbsp;the visual campaign for Björk&#39;s new album Vulnicura is in full swing, taking shape in a characteristically unconventional fashion. And it&nbsp;looks like she&#39;s established a collaboration with a super-talented director to rival her long-term creative relationship with Michel Gondry.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her work with Andrew Thomas Huang began with the video for&nbsp;Mutual Core from her last album, Biophilia. Now on Vulnicura, they have created <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiXQ5qaUGDI" target="_blank">the &#39;sound and vision installation&#39; for Black Lake</a> - shown in a special auditorium at the current Bjork exhibition&nbsp;at MoMA in New York. They have also created a &#39;virtual reality&#39; video for Stonemilker, also showing at MoMA PS1, and at Rough Trade record shops in London and Brooklyn.&nbsp;And also this.&nbsp;The video for the track Family&nbsp;is&nbsp;described as a &#39;moving album cover&#39; for Vulnicura (slightly confusing, as it&#39;s actually a lot less like the album cover shot than the video for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2015/03/16/bj%C3%B6rk-lionsong-inez-vinoodh" target="_blank">Lionsong</a> by Inez and Vanoodh). But in effect Huang uses his considerable multi-disciplinary talents to build the Björk universe from scratch, starting in CGI and then merging into live action.It&#39;s&nbsp;not just creation, but a kind of regeneration, as we begin to distinguish a&nbsp;figure, prone on a&nbsp;rock and split down the middle. This becomes Bjork, lying on a rock within a familiar Icelandic landscape,&nbsp;and repeats the&nbsp;visual motif from the other Vulnicura videos&nbsp;of a small exposed area of chest, symbolic of a damaged heart.It finishes with a symbolic CGI-enhanced repair job, indicating how the healing process continues - an uplifting message, that draws the viewer into the wonderful world created by Björk - and Andrew Thomas Huang.&nbsp;

Not long into Ian Robertson&#39;s video for&nbsp;Oliver $ &amp; Jimi Jules&#39; house anthem Pushing On, it&#39;s pretty clear that it&#39;s not going to end well for the guy who&#39;s dancing...A pregnant women on a dusty desert track is replaced by a baby, who becomes a little&nbsp;boy dancing, who&nbsp;becomes a bigger boy dancing in the same spot wearing the same red and white singlet, who then becomes a young man... It&#39;s simple, straightforward and touchingly illustrates we&#39;re all heading in the same direction. So we might as well get up and dance.

Cavalier is the first part of an ambitious trilogy of videos directed by Aoife McArdle&nbsp;for James Vincent McMorrow&#39;s new album Post Tropical, shot in a struggling community in California.&nbsp;It&#39;s a portrait of a young man on a binge of drink, drugs and women at a poledancing club - the response to an emotional pain that becomes clear at the end.Aoife and her actor explored&nbsp;method acting techniques to achieve this anguished&nbsp;performance.&nbsp;And Aoife was also reunited with DoP Steve Annis, winner of the Best Cinematography in a Video at this year&#39;s UK MVAs for his work on the McArdle-directed video for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2013/04/30/jon-hopkins-%E2%80%98open-eye-signal%E2%80%99-aoife-mcardle" target="_blank">Jon Hopkins&#39; Open Eye Signal</a>.&nbsp;

Dizzee and his pals are gathering on the streets of London, all hooded-up, and the message is clear from the BBM message he sends at the start: RIOT!But not quite like the one from a couple of&nbsp;years ago. Dizzee has got together with Ian Robertson to make his video for Love This Town (featuring Teddy Sky) to toy&nbsp;with viewer expectations, and produce a comic riff on the 2011 which manages to be&nbsp;wacky, warmhearted and,&nbsp;most importantly,&nbsp;very funny.Just when you think that this group of masked marauders must be about to cause mayhem in London&#39;s mean&nbsp;streets, they commit another outrageous act of boy scout-style neighbourliness.&nbsp;Dizzee may be the only UK artist at the moment with&nbsp;the charm, credibility and arguably the wit to pull this off. He&#39;s found a perfect collaborator in Ian Robertson, who showed what he could do with comedic narratives for Duke Dumont and Skream, and once again gets maximum comedy value from various set-pieces. Particularly good is a feelgood replay of the mugged Asian student incident from 2011. LOL.&nbsp;

Andrew Thomas Huang&#39;s impressive talent has earned him a&nbsp;&nbsp;best new director nomination at next week&#39;s UK Music Video Awards 2013 with just a couple of music videos under his belt (although they happen to be for Bjork and Sigur Ros). Now he brings us his third, and takes things to a new level, for Atoms For Peace. Civilizations build and crumble under the shifting sands of Andrew&#39;s wholly distinctive universe - a remarkable combination of in-camera and computer effects &ndash;&nbsp;with Thom Yorke, as a broken&nbsp;Greek statue at its&nbsp;centre.Having filmed Thom in LA, live footage and stop frame sets were then re-worked in CG, in order to turn the singer into an Ozymandias-style statue in the desert.&nbsp;Meticulous work was then done in the BlinkInk studio, using specially written VFX programs to cope with Andrew&rsquo;s vision for the design and animation.&nbsp;The result is an eye-melting tour of mountain ranges, crumbling cities, and psychedelic cave systems, to the pulsating sound of Before Your Very Eyes. Awe-inspiring, mesmerizing and&nbsp;enchanting.&nbsp; &nbsp;

A year or so after his beautiful yet heartbreakingly sad video for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2012/03/21/keaton-henson-small-hands-joseph-mann" target="_blank">Keaton Henson&#39;s Small Hands</a> (and fresh from the success of&nbsp;his acclaimed short film Sandy), comes a new video by Joseph Mann, which is certainly rather more lighthearted than the Keaton video&nbsp;(although it has its moments) and in its way just as brilliant.Where Small Hands had puppet woodland creatures at the mercy of nature and man in a handmade forest, Joseph&#39;s video for veteran Scottish&nbsp;alt-pop outfit Camera Obscura&#39;s Break It To You Gently&nbsp;has an old long-forgotten shopping trolley, making his getaway from a garage lock-up for an exciting&nbsp;jaunt in the real&nbsp;Camden Town and Hampstead Heath...Just how the enterprising trolley is transformed into a heroic&nbsp;character before our eyes is a marvel, and as with the Keaton vid,&nbsp;you&#39;d have to single out the work of puppeteering team Will Harper and Jonny Sabbagh for special mention. The result is&nbsp;a British comedy charmer up there with the best. Mr Mann is going to go far...&nbsp;&nbsp;

David Wilson&#39;s video for Do I Wanna Know,&nbsp;the lead-off song from the eagerly anticipated new Arctic Monkeys album is quite a departure for a band&nbsp;with a track record of being viscerally present in their own vids.Firstly it&#39;s animation, and secondly&nbsp;for a while its very minimal indeed. But then things liven up big time, as the sexy comic book style animation takes over.&nbsp;The sound wave animation&nbsp;focusses attention on&nbsp;Alex Turner&#39;s lyric-writing virtuosity, before developing into the&nbsp;flowing, stream-of-consciousness style that David has brought to lots of his animation - from the looped visuals of his VJ sets, to the animation sequence in his last video for Tame Impala...
