Matt Copson directs a dreamlike&nbsp;tour de force&nbsp;for&nbsp;Caroline Polachek - a&nbsp;mesmerising blend&nbsp;of evocative cinematography&nbsp;and surreal art direction for Smoke, with&nbsp;Polachek's performance as the glue that connects the ambitious concept.With an otherworldly, mountainous terrain as a backdrop, we see the artist scale through the location, whilst the video is overlaid by patterns and textural projections.&nbsp;The video pays homage to different eras of music videos, whilst being imbued with a sci-fi-esque aesthetic that oozes retrofuturistic vibes.&nbsp;It's standout work that leans into Polachek's transformation as a genuine alt-pop star.&nbsp;

Jordan Hemingway directs another visceral promo for Yves Tumor - part surreal fever dream, part&nbsp;Gulliver's Travels&nbsp;homage.&nbsp;The video for Echolalia features the artist being nailed into the ground by a host of miniature characters (all played by Tumor too). It's a sweltering day in London, and Jorja Smith is kicking back in a swimsuit, surrounded by table fans.Opening in an apartment straight from the pages of a fashion editorial, we follow Jorja from this interior straight to the streets, where she performs in an underground tunnel, making even the most everyday location look exciting.Transitioning from day to night, Jorja takes a surreal journey on a motorbike, the vehicles and buildings around her blending into a hazy background. The red hues of the first scenes switch to deep blue as she arrives at an indoor&nbsp;pool, stripping down and cooling off with the public.&nbsp;The video is loaded with fashion references, the art direction and styling are front and centre, and Johnson's extensive experience with brands such as Nike and Fenty is apparent here. The cinematography by&nbsp;Alexandre Jamin is top-notch, and perfectly complements the concept.&nbsp;

This wonderful video for Blood Orange (aka Dev Hynes) by Crack Stevens (aka Akinola Davies) is, in effect, two videos played alongside one another. They are at the same time very similar and widely different, and their juxtaposition serves to send a message about the diversity of the black experience in London.In both cases, we&#39;re witnessing the different stages of a family celebration, of two different communities, taking place in the same social club, where Hynes is the performer. And what is the so appealing about it is the level of detail and the beautiful portraiture so that documentary merges seamlessly with the&nbsp;music video form.It&#39;s a celebration of similarities&nbsp;- the bringing of the food, the socialising, the dancing - and the differences - and most of all, the fact that it is real - which makes every frame (and split-frame)&nbsp;fascinating.
