Directing duo rubberband. invites us on a visually haunting journey for Houston rapper/singer Don Toliver.While Toliver heads into a supermarket late at night, he leaves his friend in the car, in the completely deserted parking lot, illuminated by a floodlight on a 40-50ft mast. As the track kicks in, the friend spots the graceful figure of a pole dancer near the top&nbsp;of the floodlight mast.In their distinctive fashion the directors - Jason Sondock and Simon Davis - orchestrate&nbsp;a precision-cut experience, weaving a surreal narrative&nbsp;through the use of formally executed&nbsp;shots and unorthodox editing - distance shots of the pole dancer&nbsp;taking precedent over close-ups; Toliver barely lipsyncing the track as he walks around the vast store; the viewer is drawn in by the suspenseful pacing and not knowing what will happen next.&nbsp;Toliver's charisma and performance unfold naturally, creating a striking contrast to the surreal scene - which draws to its denouement: the parking lot tarmac&nbsp;turning to liquid, absorbing the car, and the rapper's friend...A masterful, mesmerising cinematic experience.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]

Adam Berg directs a hauntingly atmospheric promo for legendary Swedish alt-rock band Kent.&nbsp;The video for&nbsp;Återvändare (The Returners) is set against a melancholic, early-morning Stockholm, where a ghostly figure moves through&nbsp;deserted streets and fog-draped alleys, embodying themes of memory and time.The intriguing premise leans on traditional horror iconography, but in a more subdued, ethereal way. Björn Rühmann has collaborated with Paul Kalkbrenner and Mother Berlin to create a stunning 12 minute music short film to accompany the&nbsp;electronic music icon's new two song EP. It's the intriguing story, in two distinct parts,&nbsp;of a strange&nbsp;character as he comes into contact with the real, mostly hostile world: the eponymous Kabelmann.Filmed in Manchester and Berlin, with outstanding 16mm cinematography by DoP Krzysztof Trojnar (known for his work on Baby Reindeer) and&nbsp;with&nbsp;a magnetic central performance by&nbsp;Kevin Howarth as Kabelmann,&nbsp;Björn Rühmann has created a highly distinctive cinematic experience with KABELMANN. With the creative originating at&nbsp;Mother Berlin, and produced by SMUGGLER in London and Berlin-based&nbsp;Zauberberg, it was premiered at&nbsp;this year's Ciclope Festival earlier this month.[imgtoken data:1]KABELMANN is surreal, darkly comic, poignant and at times harrowing, as we follow the fortunes of Kabelmann,&nbsp;an individual with 20 metre cables flowing from his body, as he emerges from the forest for his first encounters with normal people.&nbsp;The film is&nbsp;also grounded in a analogue aesthetic, using practical effects that contributes to the overall effect and power of this 'fish out of water' story - including a costume worn by lead actor Howarth featuring 20-meter cables. And Paul Kalkbrenner renamed the names of the two songs on the EP,&nbsp;originally bearing different titles, to Kabelmann 1&nbsp;and Kabelmann 2.&nbsp;Part one of the film is the emotional story arc of an enigmatic outsider. Kabelmann searches for human connection, hindered by a mysterious energy flowing through his cables. Small flashes of the Kalkbrenner himself hint at the source behind Kabelmann's energy. The rhythm of Kalkbrenner's song pushes the story forward. Most encounters on Kabelmann's journey evoke rejection, aggression, and fear – except one with a mysterious woman in a diner, opening a hopeful path for our hero.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;[imgtoken data:2]A short interlude where the artist appears again leads into the second part of the music short film. This chapter catapults viewers into a dreamlike afterlife juxtaposed with a violent showdown, leaving Kabelmann's fate ambiguous. The second song by Kalkbrenner serves as the perfect stage for the contrast between the story layers with its optimistic spirit.Paul Kalkbrenner briefed Mother Berlin to come up with the idea for the film, and&nbsp;Stefan Witteman, Creative Director of Mother Berlin, says: "This project was a dream brief. The idea of this character, Kabelmann, was truly inspired by the artist's analogue ways of working. Bringing Kabelmann to life, from the story arc to all visual aspects, was a truly collaborative effort."Mother brought Björn Rühmann into the project who explains: "The process of finding our Kabelmann's destiny took forever – in a great way. We loved exploring all the ways for this character to become the perfect blend of an alter ego of the artist – and a unique, otherworldly hero that captivates the audience."

This was also an emotionally rewarding experience for Allie Avital, who involved her own friends and family in the making of the video for About To Lose, as she explains.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;"It’s rare to get to make work with another artist with whom you are so aligned that you finish each other’s sentences, but I have found that in Autre Ne Veut," says Avital."Loosely inspired by the credit sequence of Mike Leigh’s Secrets And Lies,&nbsp;we wanted to create a 'grief symphony' of collective mourning, and we built out the story arc and cinematography by rehearsing in our living room with Arthur and the co-singer Jess as well as the DP, shooting on our phones."We shot this on a sunny day in New York with a crew of friends and family: shot by my sister, and produced, designed, AD’ed, edited, coloured, and starring some of our best friends - and my parents!&nbsp;A real privilege to have made this alongside such talented artists in front and behind the camera who weren’t afraid to give everything physically and emotionally."

Phillip Youmans directs an ambitious blend of sci-fi and contemporary dance in his latest collaboration with Michael Kiwanuka.The video for Floating Parade is formed of several distinctive vignettes, focussed around connection and our place on this Earth as humans. Youmans' narrative device is to have the world we take for granted seen through the eyes of individuals revealed to be extra-terrestrials.In a possible echo of the American indie classic The Brother From Other Planet, all the visitors to Earth are played by African-Americans.&nbsp;With an aesthetic that switches between near-future sci-fi vibes and more understated, naturalistic scenes, it's an abstract piece that feels fully immersive and touching. It strikes a very different mood to Yeomans' previous video for Kiwanuka, the UKMVA-winning video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2022/08/26/michael-kiwanuka-beautiful-life-phillip-youmans/78073" target="_blank">Beautiful Life</a>, yet they share his distinctive cinematic style.&nbsp;“This song is so beautiful, and it takes you to another world," Youmans explains. "I’ve always loved sci-fi, so I wanted to bring that to this idea.
