Having collaborated with Headie One and Fred again.. on her latest release, FKA twigs has collaborated&nbsp;with director Emmanuel Adjei on the magisterial video for Don't Judge Me - a metaphorical exploration of&nbsp;the experience of being Black and British today.This is&nbsp;a double whammy of two distinct sequences that have their own riveting quality, and then weave together towards the greater message. Like most things created by twigs and Adjei - directors who are working together for the first time -&nbsp;they gradually create&nbsp;an indelible&nbsp;impression.[imgtoken data:1]On the one hand, there is twigs herself, sitting in a chair&nbsp;a grand room in a grand English house. But can she escape what reveals itself to be a gilded cage. Before she can get through the door of the room, unseen forces drag her back to the chair. When she negotiates the door, she only gets so far before flying back to her first position once again. It's a continual struggle, which increasingly calls upon angular choreography as well as wirework.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;And then in a mysterious counter-scenario to twigs's struggles, we are taken into another scene, the details of strange and shocking&nbsp;sculpture, and the people surrounding it. The artwork is Kara Walker's fountain sculpture Fons Americanus, a&nbsp;satirical take on a classic Victorian mode of art, cast in concrete - which has exhibited at the Tate Modern in London. The cast around the sculpture are eminent Black Britons - listed below - who have shared a particular struggle, shaped by&nbsp;cultural, systemic and structural biases,&nbsp;to be who they have become.[imgtoken data:2]"From someone’s appearance, we are unable to judge whether a person discriminates over colour, sex, religion, or gender," says Emmanuel Adjei, talking about the theme of The Invisible Oppressor, which has informed the video for Don't Judge Me.&nbsp;"The oppressors within the people surrounding us, most often remain invisible until their abuse against others is revealed. This is one of the reasons why, for generations, discrimination is so hard to fight. Who must the victim fight against if it can’t identify the perpetrator?[imgtoken data:3]"In this audio-visual document we get to witness artists FKA Twigs and Headie One, amongst other Black British influentials, fighting against invisible forces of judgement and oppression. Having the enormous Victorian-inspired fountain 'Fons Americanus'&nbsp;by visual artist Kara Walker - depicting the historical, sorrowful story of slavery and colonization - as our setting, and particularly as the spirit of the film, this important monument creates another layer of depth and meaning to an invisible yet shared history."

Released to tie-in with the release of his acclaimed debut feature Get Duked! on Amazon last week, Ninian Doff provides the movie's young quartet of unlikely heroes&nbsp;with a new mission of extreme&nbsp;mischief: an ill-advised break-in at a&nbsp;mansion containing the prized possessions of Run The Jewels and 2 Chainz.&nbsp;The feckless foursome's blundering efforts at a daring heist is overseen at all times by a series of animated portraits, and sculptures, of RTJ's Killer Mike and El-p, and guest star 2 Chainz. They discover the famous RTJ gloves, and some pink jewels giving off some psychotropic properties - and then they go too far.As in Get Duked!, the riotous fun that Doff creates around his characters transitions effortlessly from realistic live action comedy to something way more extreme and cartoonish - shrinking the characters down in a dimension,&nbsp;giving them metallic limbs and sending their faces into supersonic time warps, as they confront giant version of RTJ and 2 Chainz.[imgtoken data:1]It is high concept aesthetic - arguably a big step further from the movie - and it involved a really big production effort including shoots of the artists in New York and Atlanta - with Colin Read providing second unit directing duties - while Doff, aided and abetted by regular DoP Patrick Meller, shot the main action with his Get Duked! cast in the UK.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is a brilliant effort - but to properly enjoy, and get to know and love the characters, go check out the feature first.

As he explained in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/interviews/work-life-tom-hardiman-somesuch/63465" target="_blank">our recent interview with him</a>, Tom Hardiman employed VR tech to create his new (two-dimensional)&nbsp;video for Mura Masa.The video is a classic warehouse rave scene, but it was&nbsp;shot using a sophisticated 360˚rig, usually found on the "bottom of helicopters for&nbsp;Mission Impossible&nbsp;films."The footage was then stitched together, transitioning between multiple spheres, and editing between flattened out 360˚ video files. As such the video is genuinely experimental."A&nbsp;proper brain melt," said Tom. "It’s hard thinking beyond the rectangle…"

Filmed on the cliffs on the Portuguese coastline near Lisbon, Emmanuel Adjei captures an extraordinary musical gathering, where Madonna pays homage to and performs with the all-female&nbsp;Orquestra Batukadeiras, guardians&nbsp;the&nbsp;Capa Verdean musical and dance tradition of batuque.With its focus on the powerful faces of the women in the multi-generational Orquestra, and the harshly beautiful setting, this is the second successive video that Adjei has directed for Madonna, where the lady herself is not the centre of attention. It's also possibly the most documentary-like of any Madonna video ever - and she's made over 75 of them.But unlike Dark Ballet, where Mykki Blanco takes the lead role, Madonna is&nbsp;a powerful presence here. Her introduction into the scene is gentle, and&nbsp;characterised by her being part of the collective. Madonna, the great agent provocateur of pop, has engaged the vision of Emmanuel Adjei to create her boldest, most provocative video in years - featuring a searing performance by Mykki Blanco, as&nbsp;Joan of Arc.Blanco&nbsp;plays the hunted, defiant and doomed Joan in the Dark Ballet video -&nbsp;the distinctive modern casting of a transexual in&nbsp;the role of a timeless symbol&nbsp;of&nbsp;the powerless and downtrodden, in an otherwise believably medieval setting.It's immaculately created by Adjei on the epic scale that distinguished his MVA-winning video for Sevdaliza's Shahamaran last year, and Blanco fits seamlessly into that world, where beauty and music video aesthetics sit alongside moments of real horror -&nbsp;Adjei certainly&nbsp;does not shy away from Joan's terrible fate. &nbsp;This is also&nbsp;Madonna getting back to one of her favourite themes -&nbsp;the systemic repression&nbsp;of the Catholic Church. Desert Mountain Tribe go galactic in an effects-laden labour of love that&#39;s been a year in the making for the director Daniel Turner.This is a performance video with a difference, linking to the songtitle Interstellar. Turner has the band effectively as a heavenly body, spinning in outer space, and that was achieved&nbsp;by stitching together footage from a multi-camera shoot. Without much money, it required a lot of time to figure it out and execute the FX in post, as he explains below. Certainly a case of stretching the space-time continuum.&nbsp;
