Noel Paul directs a characteristically oddball&nbsp;and&nbsp;thought-provoking&nbsp;promo for Mitski.&nbsp;Exploring our human journey and the vices we often use as crutches on a day-to-day basis, we see an older woman stumble&nbsp;through the street, clinging on to things around her to keep stable. She is drunk and in her own world, unaware of the environment around her.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]As onlookers glare at her, she falls to the floor and is helped up by a street choir - including Mitski - but rejects their help in a selfish, self-destructive manner.&nbsp;It's a deeply emotional visual for an equally affecting track. Whilst a sense of absurdism and surreality bleed through in the neon-hued, cinematic aesthetic, the concept is much more grounded in reality, and sticks with you long after watching.&nbsp;

Baxter Dury observes the absurdities of love and courtship as characters from classic romanticist paintings come to life, in Noel Paul's impressive promo for Celebrate Me.&nbsp;In a dreamlike&nbsp;world which Paul established in his first Baxter Dury video for Aylesbury Boy,&nbsp;we see the whimsical, playful vignettes unravel with Baxter in the centre of it all, playing both narrator and spectator to the chaos.&nbsp;Slowly getting more and more enveloped by the dreamlike scenes, Baxter doesn't get a happy ending in this one, but the journey is certainly a lot of fun.&nbsp;Another great&nbsp;visual feast from Noel Paul - including&nbsp;a cameo from Friend EP&nbsp;Danny Herman.&nbsp;

Noel Paul directs an uncanny, bizarre and hilarious promo for Portland-based rock band Portugal. The Man - featuring unruly team mascot Tank Dog.&nbsp;Filmed (mostly) in Alaska - where the band originate - the video follows the all-pink character's anarchic progress through a snowbound community, bouncing between causing a nuisance and trying to find a sense of belonging in a series of eyecatching&nbsp;vignettes - including, most ominously, strapped to the roof of a moving monster truck, firing a machine gun.As the freezing conditions, and a group of young boys, get the better of Tank Dog, the climax of the video sees a sudden change in location -&nbsp;to a carnival in Colombia. It's quite possibly the most 'Noel Paul' video ever... a&nbsp;high compliment indeed.

Noel Paul directs a suitably uncanny promo for Baxter Dury - the first of a series of videos ffor the lugubrious singer-songwriter.The video for&nbsp;Aylesbury Boy is a feverish, super-vibrant trip into Dury's subconscious. In the song, he is recounting moments from his own youth; in Paul's nightmarish&nbsp;approximation,&nbsp;he's terrorised by a devil, some goblins and a bunch of school kids.&nbsp;With cinematography by Ramzi Hibri,&nbsp;this has an otherworldly atmosphere, in the vein of Paul's&nbsp;UKMVA-winning video for Black Midi's Sugar/Tzu. Abstract imagery clashes head-on with a soft, almost romantic aesthetic, which creates an&nbsp;uncomfortabl yet riveting atmosphere, which seems to reflect a certain personal version of Hell.“Wes Anderson, The Shining, Jabberwocky...&nbsp;Noel has made something so intuitive and beyond my expectations," says Baxter Dury of the video for Aylesbury Boy. Noel Paul teams up with math rock tyros black midi to create an&nbsp;extraordinary visual for the latest release for their new&nbsp;album Hellfire - released today -&nbsp;bringing the outlandish lyrics of Sugar/Tzu to life as&nbsp;a brutal, utterly surreal&nbsp;boxing match.Visceral and colourful in equal measure, with pulsatingly textural cinematography by Jake Scott, Paul has created a scenario that places the&nbsp;action within&nbsp;the untethered logic of a dream - or nightmare. It's a mesmerizing visual accompaniment to an&nbsp;intense&nbsp;stream-of-unconsciousness from vocalist Geordie Greep, that's tied closely to the lyrics' off-kilter, wildly random subject matter.[imgtoken data:1]Greep makes as close to an appearance in the video as you get from the band themselves - providing lipsync to the&nbsp;rhesus monkey that acts as master of ceremonies for the contest. Noel Paul directs a gritty yet heartwarming promo for Ezra Furman.&nbsp;The video focuses on an unlikely pickup after a rough night at a rowdy dive bar. We see the main character - played by Elizabeth Scopel - dazed and confused, attempting to lose themselves with macho boozers&nbsp;on the dancefloor, before getting accidentally whacked on the head and knocked to the floor by an overenthusiastic patron.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Elizabeth is picked up by NY cabaret personality and actor Daphne Always, who drives her to a hotel, cleans her up and sees the sunset in with a cigarette.&nbsp;This is terrific work by Noel Paul, beautifully shot by DoP&nbsp;Gabe Harden. The cinematic aesthetic and use of colour evokes vintage arthouse fare, and perfectly encapsulates the narrative concept.&nbsp;

Noel Paul directs an alluring ghostly&nbsp;fantasy for Let's Eat Grandma.&nbsp;Following up his previous collaboration with the indie-pop duo on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2022/01/06/lets-eat-grandma-happy-new-year-noel-paul/74465">Happy New Year</a>, the video for Levitation depicts Jenny Hollingsworth from the band on a train&nbsp;ride, peering out of the window on a journey and seeing her reflection - played by&nbsp;bandmate Rosa Walton, mirroring her every move.As&nbsp;the train speeds on, Rosa develops an increasingly separate identity, and the dreamlike quality of the video begins to transcend&nbsp;the material world. Paul develops the train carriage vignette into an exhilarating scene of the pair flying through the skies together, hand in hand.Noel Paul has done a marvellous job with this strongly conceptual performance piece that&nbsp;dares to cast Jenny and Rosa as heroines in the tradition&nbsp;of classic English literature and film - an aesthetic also championed&nbsp;by artists such as&nbsp;Kate Bush and directors like Sophie Muller. Noel Paul directs an ethereal promo for British pop duo Let's Eat Grandma, for their very timely new release, Happy New Year.&nbsp;Taking place in an indoor tennis court, we see the duo - made up of&nbsp;Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth - face off in a tennis match, intermittently exchanging lines of the track between serves.&nbsp;There is a surreality to the concept, as balls hover mid-air, waiting to be hit, and the pair's bodies seem to ragdoll with every strike.&nbsp;There is also a certain level of apathy to the girls' performances - until they&nbsp;reconnect, start smashing their rackets and appear on an outdoor court, under a parade of fireworks.&nbsp;The abstract concept perfectly suits the spacey&nbsp;soundscapes of the track, aesthetically reminiscent of a parallel universe where things don't&nbsp;make sense, but are absolutely mesmerising to watch and experience.&nbsp;

Natasha Kahn (Bat for Lashes) makes a welcome return, directing and starring in a strange and tender vignette set in the eerie light of the Los Angeles hills. The multi-instrumentalist continues&nbsp;her love affair with the American city in this cosmic love story about a girl and boy from different universes.We were first introduced to Kahn in Dougal Wilson’s now legendary video for What’s a Girl to Do: a lonely woman cycling down a desolate highway, deep in the Witching Hour. Over the next&nbsp;15 years, the singer has developed a distinct visual oeuvre, comparable even to the great Kate Bush, her stage name becoming&nbsp;shorthand for a specific kind of mesmerising high&nbsp;concept video, in which the singer adopted different guises and identities. Like Bush, Kahn has graduated to directing her own videos - including a fascinating video cycle for her concept album The Bride (2016).Kids in the Dark is the first cut from her new album, a larger concept built around a new character called Nikki Pink - played by Natasha Khan. The character went missing, and has now re-emerged in the nocturnal, feminine world of the “Lost Girls” - a marauding gang of bikers. The video has been trailed by various clues about Nikki’s whereabouts, including cryptic images and Kahn’s very own phone line (#batphoners).The ghostly photography by Gilles O'Kane immediately conjures up images from cult classics&nbsp;Mulholland Drive and Betty Blue. It was edited by long-time collaborator Noel Paul.

In between is a photo session with a brillianty varied cast of extras - all friends and family. It takes time for her to&nbsp;embrace the vivid culture and people of the city, ending with&nbsp;each of her adventures flashing up in close succession, as snapshots from her journey.&nbsp;&ldquo;In this video I&rsquo;m a solo soul-searcher,&quot; Rae has said about the Atletico video. &quot;New Orleans was the perfect place for this video because it&rsquo;s such a joyous city with the most infectious energy. And soon everyone they meet is joining in to utter the imperative &#39;DO IT&#39;.A joyful piece of work - and there&#39;s one unguarded moment from Rae which is absolute gold. &nbsp;

A subtle and creeping story with some impressive timing. And one man&#39;s very long wait to take his next breath.
