Floria Sigismondi returns to music videos with a theatrical blockbuster for Sam Smith's chart-topping Unholy,&nbsp;featuring Kim Petras.Shot in London, this eye-popping extravaganza&nbsp;is a musical set-piece packed with flair, pizzazz and sexual energy - with Sam as the charismatic MC of a small army of show-people at&nbsp;The Body Shop, the LGBTQ+ cabaret where lustful dreams come true.&nbsp;With cameos by Gottmik and Violet Chachki from RuPaul's Drag Race,&nbsp;and porn star Paddy O'Brian, the film follows a husband who ducks out on his wife and sneaks off to his favorite sex club cabaret, where he soon finds his guilty pleasures revealed in a very public manner. After discovering her husband’s unfaithful ways, the film concludes with the wife character becoming liberated by her own sexuality, rather than a victim to the scandal.A modern retelling of the spectacle of cabaret, Sigismondi&nbsp;has drawn upon her&nbsp;upbringing for this - she was born to Italian opera singer parents, and grew up amid the theatrical and the avant-garde&nbsp;- and applied her&nbsp;trademark cinematic style previously seen in her award-winning work for the likes of Gucci, Rihanna, David Bowie, and Justin Timberlake.Choreographed by French dance collective (LA)HORDE, who are famed for their ability to develop scenarios and actions that take up radically contemporary themes and questions, the seductive music video is a visual feast led by a diverse and queer cast.With references to French surrealist photographer Claude Cahun and noted corset maker of the late 20th Century, Mr. Pearl, the video’s costume designer Lisa Jarvis created an impressive range of otherworldly looks for the enormous ensemble, who were cast&nbsp;by Hannah Ashby Ward at Lane Casting (an LGBTQ+ owned company) to showcase&nbsp;real, diverse and unapologetic bodies.&nbsp;Floria Sigismondi, Director, comments: “I grew up in the world of theatre and opera. This film presented the platform for me to reach deep into that history. It was important to me to bring the theatrics and drama to the film while also giving it a modern feel. We were not interested in creating a period piece. We wanted to create our own world. The theatre and setting gave us the history of cabaret but the costumes broadened that and injected a modern element. For me it's a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and creating that celebration was the most important and joyous experience."Jannie McInnes, Executive Producer at Scheme Engine, adds: “The creative excellence and expression across departments on this project completely blew my mind. Floria sets a high bar, inspires people to bring their most creative selves and she wants everyone to have fun doing it. It's no mean feat to match the scale and ambition of Introvert, the first track from Little Simz's forthcoming&nbsp;second album. But Salomon Ligthelm has done it with this extraordinarily powerful video - imaginative, inspirational and, above all, just as&nbsp;epic as the song.Introvert is&nbsp;visceral essay about black people's lives,&nbsp;fuelled by fear,&nbsp;exhaustion, frustration and political awakening. Ligthelm's brilliant work captures the essence of the powerful emotion driving Simz's track with a stunning collage of choreography, performance, archival news footage, classical painting, home movies, and a brilliant sense of Simz's home city.The video was shot across a range of London locations, including some very grand ones -&nbsp;the Natural History Museum and Wallace Collection, as well as Peckham and Crystal Palace sports complex. Ligthelm uses a&nbsp;chopped-up, collaged structure to reflect the landscape it maps, with a succession of stunning images and sequences, shot on a mix of formats - but&nbsp;predominantly Super 16mm and 4-perf 35mm film.Ligthelm first worked with Simz on the&nbsp;Top Boy&nbsp;promo for season 3, and at the end of 2020 they talked about collaborating on a video together for her new music. The result, Ligthelm's first work since joining Prettybird in London,&nbsp;is an absolute classic of the form, where every department has excelled.Wonderfully shot by&nbsp;Joel Honeywell, brilliantly edited by Elise Butt, the riveting combination of photography, choreography and editorial, as well as direction and performance, echoes the work of director Mark Romanek, and Beyoncé, no less. <a href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vT7N_Edu9J2P8sjLwg2KQ1qpszDSU2ZM-yJrZ3u1SlzJ6-AkzTAA2w8D61Ee8gYVQq9MELlB9g-78nh/pubhtml#" target="_blank">The Hue-List</a>, launched by top DoP and diversity activist Joel Honeywell late last year, has established itself as the go-to directory for crew of Black, Asian, Arab and Mixed Heritage origin in a matter of months – and has now extended beyond the UK and Europe to America.Established in November 2020 to help film, TV, commercial and music video producers working in the UK and EU find crew from BAME backgrounds, the database run by Honeywell (above, with young future cinematographer)&nbsp;has quickly compiled contact details of more than 400 professionals working in all parts of the industry – from camera and lighting to post-production – since its launch.After discussions with colleagues in the US, Honeywell is now opening The Hue-List to American regions as well as the UK and Europe. The database looks set to become an increasingly valuable resource in helping producers and companies looking to increase diversity among crew. It’s an objective that many are committed to achieving, having pledged to the Change The Lens initiative, that launched in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests last summer, to have at least 15% of crew from non-white backgrounds to reflect wider society.<blockquote>I put it into spaces where people could see it... and basically had 300 people sign up overnight.</blockquote>“I want to break the mould and make it easier for Black and Brown trained and experienced crew, that have had, or are having trouble breaking into spaces that they’ve been actively structurally shut out from,” says Honeywell.&nbsp;“I was once in this space, and I realised early on that people following the same path as me, were not being afforded the opportunities if you looked different.“The industry is a tribal space, it's about who you know, and sometimes, who you know might not like you in their space, or has a preconception or unconscious bias. There are so many talented and brilliant individuals, from non-white heritage, who don’t have the access to these spaces because of this type of nepotism, and are at an immediate disadvantage... these people become alienated, lose confidence and tend to give up. This Hue-List exists, to change that.”&nbsp;Having previously launched Sporas in 2019, which began as a WhatsApp group for Black filmmakers and has grown into a non-profit organisation run in the US, Honeywell launched The Hue-List in 2020 to focus upon the directory function, so it works like a diary service for producers.It began with a social media campaign, with Honeywell stressing that it was free to join. “I was just putting it into spaces where people could see it, on Facebook, Instagram and elsewhere – and then I basically had 300 people sign up overnight.”Since that initial burst, he has been getting an average of two or three people a day applying to join the list. “They are usually working technicians, and now mostly people I’m unaware of,” he says adding that he has vetted and approved each application before adding names and contact details to the list.The Hue-List now has individuals listed under seven headings: Camera, Grip &amp; Lighting; Sound; Art, Costume, HMU &amp; Props; Production, Locations, Management; Post-Production; and Emerging Crew/Trainees.The success of the new initiative has been confirmed by the endorsement of the APA, who have now added it to their list of the official crew lists with established diary services like Suz Cruz and Wizzo.Honeywell says that this support is significant to the aim of the initiative. “It’s a place for companies, producers, and heads of department to find options. So that they can work towards making this an industry that’s not geared just to serve one community, but for a diverse world. That’s the goal.”As a very busy Director of Photography, Honeywell currently devotes part of his weekend on the upkeep and additions to the List. With expansion to include North American non-white professionals, the work enters a new phase.&nbsp;Ari Brown, an agent at Artistry, who used to work for Keslow Camera Rental Inc, will now looking after the US side of Hue-List operations.In the long term Honeywell&nbsp;says that, as well as serving this purpose as a production resource, he hopes that The Hue-List can increase its reach and influence once the world returns to greater normality. “I have ideas about what I want to do with it – training programmes, outreach projects for kids who have no means to help them get into the industry.”He says that a visit to his school by a cameraman had a profound effect upon him. “I had no idea such a job existed before he came to the school. I made sure that I found out more, through talking to my careers officer, about how to make it my career. Breaking the mould: Joel Honeywell’s Hue-List directory of crew of BAME origin in UK/EU now expanding to US

Hector Dockrill and&nbsp;RUFFMERCY present a haunting visual for Ghetts' IC3, featuring Skepta.&nbsp;Dividing the workload on the enigmatic promo, Dockrill directed the live action footage, with RUFFMERCY creating and directing&nbsp;the&nbsp;overlaid animation. The resulting video is an exceptional piece of work,&nbsp;dark and minacious with an otherworldy, gritty aesthetic. The strobing textures and hyperactive scribble-style animation add a surreal vibe to the promo, and the frenetic camerawork builds upon this style.It's also a suitably strong addition to the current visual campaign around Ghetts' new&nbsp;releases&nbsp;in which RUFFMERCY has played a crucial role - including directing <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIhWBhf1lPY" target="_blank">the&nbsp;video for Mozambique</a>,&nbsp;nominated for the Best Animation award at this year's UKMVAs.&nbsp;
