Dave Free and&nbsp;Kendrick Lamar direct a poignant performance promo for Count Me Out.&nbsp;We meet&nbsp;Kendrick by his piano, deep in thought until he is interrupted by his therapist - played by the inimitable Helen Mirren - who encourages him to continue his session.&nbsp;The video then splits off into a series of abstract vignettes, which each artistically interpret the lyrics into something photographic and emotionally stirring.&nbsp;The composition is also inspired, placing intimate shots of Mirren and Lamar on opposing sides of the frame, in the manner of a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triptych" target="_blank">triptych in medieval art</a>,&nbsp;allowing viewers to take in the emotions from both sides, whilst experiencing the vignettes in the middle.Brilliant work, with a moving message.&nbsp;

Following the brilliant intensity of <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2022/05/10/kendrick-lamar-heart-part-5-dave-free-kendrick-lamar/76299" target="_blank">The Heart Part 5</a>, something less intense but hardly less brilliant for N95 - another track from Kendrick Lamar's much anticipated and already much-dissected new album Mr Morale &amp; The Big Steppers.As per, it's directed by Kendrick and Dave Free. It's been a long time coming, but it's been worth the wait. The first proper music video by Kendrick Lamar in ages comes with the burden of following the greatness that has preceded it. But this one... it's that rare moment when you sense something very special has happened. A culturally significant, transcendent work of visual Art.Yes, music videos can be Art. Easy to forget. Yet with The Heart Part 5, Kendrick Lamar and&nbsp;Dave Free - the old Little Homies team, now openly credited - have shown that there is the potential to harness the medium to elevate the message onto a new level. That should be incredibly inspiring - to musicians, filmmakers, and simply everyone who watches it.&nbsp;They have done so by using cutting edge VFX - the use of deepfake&nbsp;technology,&nbsp;created by Deep Voodoo, is fantastic. Kendrick transforms into a series of famous Black men - starting with&nbsp;OJ Simpson, moving on to&nbsp;Kanye, Nipsey Hustle, Kobe Bryant, Colin Kaepernick, Will Smith - visual portrayals that, in the case of Nipsey Hustle,&nbsp;are reflected in his words.We have seen some very good deepfakery&nbsp;before, mitigating against the absolute originality of the concept (and accusations of plagiarism have already started). But ultimately, it's all about the simplicity, the aesthetics, the timing, and above all, the spellbinding performance. Kendrick is so great in this. The occasionally imperfect lipsync makes it even better. And for good measure, he's rapping over&nbsp;Marvin Gaye's I Want You. Dave Meyers directs a high-concept fairytale fantasy for&nbsp;Megan Thee Stallion's team-up&nbsp;Dua Lipa.Based on a concept by Megan Thee Stallion, the video follows two men as they wander into an otherworldly forest, before encountering the artists as you've never seen them before.&nbsp;Dark, sultry and enigmatic, the pair are introduced in the throws of a chaotic abode, which has gyrating legs for doors and a neverending spiral of spiky teeth lining the walls inside.&nbsp;The video only gets more absurd and visually complex from there, and the sheer scale of the concept - and the staggering amount of VFX&nbsp;work - pays off in an explosion of glossy set pieces and first class performances.&nbsp;It's jawdropping work - but that is what we have come to expect from the&nbsp;remarkable Dave Meyers and the brilliant team around him.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]

Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia take the intimate and make it spectacular in their video for Trevor Daniel and Selena Gomez.Starting with the Trevor and Selena's&nbsp;performance of Past Life - brought together from their respective isolation by&nbsp;Instagram Live - Heymann and Muggia then characteristically move it on to a far greater scale, with unbridled imagination - but also using the resources available to them during the lockdown.When the fourth wall of the phone screen is broken, a GGI world is created and that's a pathway to a merging of landscapes - the natural wonders of the world with contours of Selena's face. And then also Trevor's.It's a visionary use of stock footage, somewhat in the vein of Heymann and Muggia's classic video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2016/05/17/coldplay-upup-vania-heymann-and-gal-muggia/41368" target="_blank">Coldplay's Up&amp;Up</a>, and the sweeping aerial shots across marvellous vistas also serve to make it appropriately romantic.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dave Meyers directs an emotional and pertinent&nbsp;visual for Anderson Paak's Lockdown.Reflecting on racial injustice, police brutality and the global pandemic, the video is an introspective exploration of how society has reached its tipping point, and a call for systematic change.&nbsp;Featuring cameos from&nbsp;Dominic Fike,&nbsp;Andra Day, Jay Rock, Syd of the Internet and .Paak's son Soul Rasheed, amongst others,&nbsp;Lockdown is made up of several performance vignettes, stylised in a subtle way with offbeat angles and composition, but pared down from some of Meyers' more fantastical work. The intimate performances are the focus here, and the video ensures&nbsp;the issues at hand remain centre-stage.&nbsp;The animation at the end of the video, detailing the names of those killed through police brutality, is a striking wake up call: "The People Are Rising". All cast and crew salaries were donated to Beam, Dream Defenders and Color Of Change.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A hypnotic beat draws out a crowd for an old-school block party&nbsp;in Malia James' video for Bryce Vine.&nbsp;A bouncy bassline introduces the visual, with various passers-by tapping their feet and moving their hips, as the music semiconsciously takes over their bodies. Every step, bounce and jiggle hits the beat, and the whole town is feeling the music.&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Corey C Waters experiments with camera movement, mixing whip-pans and handheld shots to create the frenetic vibe the track calls for. The repetition of certain shots helps build&nbsp;to a climax at the end of the video, with editor&nbsp;Nick Rondeau masterfully pulling off a crescendo of dancing, partying and a raving good time.&nbsp;

Disco goes futuristic in Daniel Russell's brilliant video for The Other Side.&nbsp;After having a smash hit with <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2016/05/17/justin-timberlake-cant-stop-feeling-mark-romanek/41397">Can't Stop The Feeling</a>&nbsp;-&nbsp;which was produced for the film Trolls back in 2016 -&nbsp;Timberlake returns with a track for the sequel, joined by the multitalented SZA.&nbsp;Echoing the dripping excess of 90s music promos, the heavy use of&nbsp;fisheye lens and sprawling futuristic backdrops pays homage to the work of Hype Williams, whilst breaking out with a contemporary vibe of its own.DoP&nbsp;Chris Probst experiments with frame rates to create a glitchy yet intriguing performance in the middle of the video, which complements the frenetic and fun attitude throughout.&nbsp;David Courtemarche's art direction is superb, focusing almost exclusively on silver as a colour palette, and infusing each&nbsp;scene with futuristic textures and minimal clutter.Timberlake and SZA hit it out of the park with their performances, confident and in their element as they dance, jump and drop to the addictive beat.&nbsp;

Camila Cabello fights her way out of the studio system in Dave Meyers' rollicking comic history of Hollywood's Golden Age for My Oh My.Opening on the set of a 30s-style gangster film, Cabello plays the damsel in distress one times too many, and flips out when the director calls cut before she gets a chance to show her violent side. Begging with a bunch of suits back at the studio, she takes her career into her own hands when they deny her a role as an action movie heroine.&nbsp;The black and white visual is soaked in the glamour and nostalgia of old Hollywood, paying homage to the time period through everything from high contrast lighting to the Art Deco-inspired set dressing. And the introduction of Dababy keeps the story powering forward, offering Camila a way out of her predicament.DoP Scott Cunningham utilises whip pans and rapid camera movement to keep up the pace and intensity, and the art direction takes us through the decades, building to an explosive climax - in Cinemascope and Technicolor -&nbsp;when Cabello finally gets her way, echoing&nbsp;Kill Bill&nbsp;and other badass female action films&nbsp;we take for granted in contemporary cinema.&nbsp;With plenty of his offbeat humour on-screen, Meyers also appears in a rare cameo as a scriptwriter, rounding off a brilliant cast of no-nonsense, greedy business-types. Cabello is brilliant as always, diving headfirst into the multifaceted role and making the whole thing believable. Magical work from an ambitious creative team.&nbsp;
