Aus Taylor directs a gripping allegory on racism&nbsp;for LA duo Paris Texas, from the POV of a bullet, chasing a young black man.In the video for Bullet Man, the white teen grandson of a racist&nbsp;redneck transforms into a black teenager, runs from the grandfather's trailer, pursued by a bullet from the old bigot's rifle.&nbsp;The offbeat balance of themes and execution in this video makes for a fresh, unique concept. As dark and grotesque as the allusions to gun violence are, the over the top, almost comical cinematography - which follows the spinning bullet around corners and into a swimming pool - makes it completely surreal and cartoonish.&nbsp;With a riotous climax and an air of mystery to the final scene, it's an unmissable video that lingers long after watching.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ed Sheeran is at one with the elements,&nbsp;in Mia Barne's touching&nbsp;promo for Boat.&nbsp;We see Sheeran performing in the middle of the sea, battling a tirade of incoming waves as he works to keep his footing.Before long, various objects get caught up in the water, including broken records, teddy bears and stationery.&nbsp;The cinematography is surprisingly intimate and conversational throughout - with Sheeran's eyeline always down the lens and the camera up close and personal, it feels as if he is pouring his heart out to a friend, and it makes for a beautiful visual.&nbsp;It's the perfect track for a stripped back yet perfectly executed promo, and Barnes brings it to life with an emotional yet still playful concept.&nbsp;

Mia Barnes directs a heartfelt promo for Ed Sheeran's Eyes Closed - the first release from forthcoming album Subtract.&nbsp;Hanging out at a bar with only a few strangers for company, the video opens with Ed drinking away his sorrows, attempting to bury an unhappiness lurking within him.&nbsp;Before long, he begins to see a giant, fuzzy blue monster - a representation of the sadness that he carries around with him. And it starts to shadow&nbsp;him everywhere he goes.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]The portrayal of such emotions as a rather loveable furry creature perhaps suggests&nbsp;that when you hold&nbsp;onto negative emotions for so long, they almost become comfortable and familiar, adding a layer of meaning to the poignant visual. But of course it's also a very astute way of portraying a negative emotion within the recognisable Sheeran universe.It's a true feat of visual effects,&nbsp;not only with the main monster design but for&nbsp;several other characters with their own emotional creatures, and Ed's stirring performance is the glue that binds the dreamlike, tender promo together.&nbsp;

She soon projects her fear and anxieties onto the page, until a breakthrough moment shines a light on the brighter side of life, and the friends who help her navigate the storm.[imgtoken data:1]The slick, filmic aesthetic perfectly contrasts the golden light of the library with the cold, clouded gloom of her fear vignettes, and the central performance helps marry the different setups to great effect.&nbsp;&nbsp;"There’s something quite magical about filming in London in December and we quite literally captured this underneath the festive glow of Westminster," Cater explains. But then she sees a blue bird in a tree outside the perfect home - lipsyncing to the song Wolf. Following frontman Alex Turner's video for There Ought To Be A Mirrorball, Brook Linder picks up the baton to create a&nbsp;breathtaking video, again glorying in the beauty of the moving image of its own sake, for Arctic Monkeys.&nbsp;Linder's video for Body Paint is&nbsp;a montage of abstract vignettes, each carefully considered and filmed, building a sense of mystery through the placement and contrast of different visuals and iconography.[imgtoken data:1]It's imbued with themes of vintage cinema and moving image (with the large-scale zoetrope as the most notable example), and peppered with throwbacks to famous paintings and artworks.&nbsp;Most importantly, this works brilliantly as a visual accompaniment to the new sonic direction of the band for their forthcoming album The Car, and is all of a piece with Turner's video. It's a homage to the sort of filmmaking by Jean-Luc Godard, the great disruptor of cinema, and others from the classic age of 'arthouse cinema' - but it also feels crisply contemporary. Great work.&nbsp;
