Dumas Haddad helms a cinematic feat for British neo-soul duo&nbsp;MRCY, combining a thrilling dance performance with the artists&nbsp;in an intriguing labyrinth-like space.Haddad bends&nbsp;reality in the video for Flicker, as a man - dancer Stefano Saa - unravels with hypnotic physicality inside this remarkable location where&nbsp;doors lead nowhere and hallways fold into themselves.&nbsp;Reality flickers, space and time twist in this cinematic hall of mirrors, pulling the dancer deeper into chaos.Shot through striking wide-angle lenses, the film slips between slow-motion dissociation and bursts of frantic movement. The building in which its set is a mutating, liminal prison of light, geometry, and eerie loops - and becomes a character in itself in the video.With superb cinematography by Courtney Bennett and grade by Thomas Kumeling, it's a substantial achievement which develops an atmosphere of Kubrickian unease with the sporadic appearance of additional characters and creatures adding to the constant disorientation of the central character.And amid the chaos, Haddad also creates an appealing visual&nbsp;showcase for the musical talents of the band, as the action continually pulses with the track's beat.&nbsp;Hypnotic as its surreal, it's a&nbsp;very welcome return to music videos.[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]

A boy spirals headlong into&nbsp;PinkPantheress's tartan-patterned world in Ethan &amp; Tom's captivating mixed-media video for Illegal.When the boy - played by Sekou Diaby -&nbsp;opens a box of jellies and offers one to Pink, she declines. Sekou eats one, and then trips out into a vibrant animated dreamworld - comprised of Pink's unmistakeable sillhouette against rapidly changing tartan (or plaid) designs, that distinctive, Y2K-influenced aspect of her personal style. Certainly enough to put his poor head in a spin.Playfully flipping&nbsp;between the live action and the animation - created by Black Anime Animation Studio - it's a superb showcase for Pink, both&nbsp;the astute songwriter/producer and blossoming&nbsp;pop star. Ethan &amp; Tom have zeroed in upon the incisive storytelling and deadpan wit of her lyrics, her attitude and iconic look, with humour&nbsp;and visual invention.&nbsp;Following their wacky adventure last year for another unique British musical talent - <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2024/09/03/geordie-greep-holy-holy-ethan-tom/87942" target="_blank">Geordie Greep</a> -&nbsp;this is another big step forward for the directing duo into the pop world. Yes,&nbsp;that&nbsp;Haircut 100 <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAy-RxquZPk" target="_blank">who were&nbsp;big in the early 1980s</a>, returning with their first single in 40 years.Bailey's video for The Unloving Plum has the aesthetic of the original&nbsp;Frankenstein&nbsp;- or perhaps Mel Brooks'&nbsp;Young Frankenstein&nbsp;- complete with vintage black and white cinematography and old school effects, as the band frontman&nbsp;Nick Hayward plays a&nbsp;mad scientist in the midst of a gruesome experiment.Ultimately it's an excellent performance piece for the band's catchy single -&nbsp;and the style and Frankenstein&nbsp; concept is rather appropriate for a band that has miraculously reanimated after four decades.&nbsp;Good to have them back - even if Nick Hayward looks in need of a&nbsp;haircut.[imgtoken data:1]
