Fred Rowson&#39;s video for Bree Runway is an all-too-believeable story of exploitation&nbsp;of young female talent in the pop industry, with a righteous side-order of revenge.Bree becomes the subject of a photo session with a top photographer, who uses his position to assert increasing levels of control, which ratchets into sexual abuse. But he has messed with the wrong girl.Fred Rowson does a very good job here in creating a dramatic situation that deals with a serious issue&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;and showing just how feasible this is &ndash; while retaining conventions of the pop video, including performance.&nbsp;&quot;Ever since Bree and I shared a mutual love of Kanye West on the dance floor, I knew I wanted to make a music video for her,&quot; he says. &quot;We dedicated this to perverts everywhere; your days are numbered.&quot;

Floating women, crucifixes and brutalism - there&#39;s a rich tapestry of imagery in Pedro Martin-Calero&#39;s newest clip for The Weeknd.Martin-Calero&#39;s awesome minimalist visual sees The Weeknd and another man vie for the affections of the same woman as they all make their way through a huge, beautiful maze-like building. With deep blood-red decor cutting through the space, a series of silent observers, distorted mirrors and geometric shapes the clip has an almost Kubrickian sense of dread to it. No wonder some excitable commenters are seeing this as some kind of evidence&nbsp;of The Weeknd&#39;s affiliation with &#39;The Illuminati&#39;.

Blink MD James Studholme&#39;s sideline as leader of shambly&nbsp;folk-bluegrass outfit Police Dog Hogan has led to notable videos by Blink and Colonel Blimp directors - but surely none better than this one by Fred Rowson.As Rowson explains below, the band&#39;s song Tyburn Jig provided the ideal opportunity to realise a long-cherished idea, to create a Victorian-era Rogues Gallery like no other. What marks it out is the wit and invention that&#39;s gone into fleshing out the idea, and its brilliant delivery, involving great work in various&nbsp;departments - including wardrobe, art direction, make-up and photography.The characters set before the police photographer&#39;s massive 19th century camera are an outlandish, exotic yet hapless bunch - they make Tom Hardy&#39;s band of reprobates in&nbsp;Taboo&nbsp;look slightly boring &ndash; all sentenced to hang,&nbsp;for committing pathetically trivial misdemeanours: stealing a wheel of cheese, egg smashing, pretending to have divine powers...&nbsp;&nbsp;These unfortunates&nbsp;look amazing thanks to costume design by Grace Snell, art direction by Zoe Klinck and prosthetics and makeup by Emma Croft, who transformed Studholme and other band members into the unlikeliest characters. And then there&#39;s the fact it looks rather like it was shot in Victorian times: that&#39;s down&nbsp;to the skills of DoP Stefan Yap and colourist Edwin Metternich at Framestore. Wonderful work all round - the sort of thing that makes you proud to be British.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Indie-psych&nbsp;band Temples have released their track Strange Or Be Forgotten - garnering&nbsp;up some excitement for their soon-to-be-released&nbsp;second album&nbsp;Volcano -&nbsp;with a beautiful and thought-provoking video directed by James Beale.&nbsp;We witness&nbsp;an unusual photoshoot&nbsp;set in an a cavernous, industrial arch, where frontman James Bagshaw is&nbsp;eager to capture a fraction of the essence in his&nbsp;larger-than-life&nbsp;subjects. These eccentric characters reveal their creative, passionate and occasionally quite tortured selves, through their&nbsp;unique&nbsp;artistic expression.A fabulous bearded lady drag show, an intense extended-arm drawing is created, tears fall on demand,&nbsp;and&nbsp;full body painting is performed, and what&#39;s most powerful perhaps is the subjects&#39; palpable confrontation with their own vulnerability, as they face the band like&nbsp;an artist facing an expressionless jury panel.&nbsp;

Alan Masferrer presents a heavy-smoking playboy and his delightfully energetic&nbsp;friend&nbsp;in this kooky and very charming two-hander&nbsp;for LA&#39;s electro-disco duo Oliver.With plenty of appropriately 80s signifiers &ndash; the lips on the TV screens, the gold lamé swimwear, and a hero with a touch of the Dudley Moores about him - Masferrer&nbsp;toys with numerous influences (including perhaps, the love-hate relationship between Clouseau and Kato in the Pink Panther films). But there is nothing predictable about it - oer a&nbsp;recognisably linear narrative.But who cares, with a song this good, and a couple (Spanish actors Sheila Jordà and Xavier Pàmies) this loveable...?

James Beale&#39;s video for Georgie puts couples at odds in this London flat block.As if storming out of a flat fresh from an argument, Georgie&#39;s wrath here is contagious as she wanders the grounds spreading anger in the night air. It seems wherever she goes there&#39;s drama. Beale here lets all the action play out in the background whilst keeping the focus on Georgie. Forcing the viewer to look around the frame and catch the glimpses of as many stories as they can before the song is over.

Spanish garageband Hinds have got together again with Pedro Martin-Calero, following their lovely video together&nbsp;for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2015/10/26/hinds-garden-pedro-martin-calero" target="_blank">Garden</a>, with&nbsp;another, just as&nbsp;beautifully designed and witty clip. Possibly more so. And this time the feisty Hinds girls are up against a worthy rival.&nbsp;Adorned in kimonos, Hinds spend this video trying to keep a young man away from the girl of his dreams. Are they a force for the greater good, or are they just making things difficult for fun? Well, when the dream girl in question takes each member of the geisha-gang out in a particulalrly gruesome way, whilst giving a knowning, dead-eyed look to the camera, I think the question is well and truly answered.Pedro Martin-Calero has delivered a really gorgeous video here - full of bold colours and gorgeous minimalist composition. Some great VFX work and artful visuals help to tell this story fantastically well. Cold-blooded murder has rarely looked and felt this good.

James Beale&#39;s video for troubadour Willie&nbsp;J Healey&#39;s Pipedreams features a sort of&nbsp;dream sequence&nbsp;shot on VHS cam&nbsp;(or something similar) that&#39;s&nbsp;both unlikely yet unmistakeably real: the old guy walking solemnly through LA storm drains and towards the concrete skate bowl&nbsp;at Venice Beach&nbsp;is transformed into a skilful skater dude, capable of numerous tricks - and even more remarkably, able to take numerous tumbles.&nbsp;A thoroughly engaging clip, highly appropriate for a totally excellent song - and the first video by James Beale since he joined the directors roster at Colonel Blimp. His previous work includes the video for <a href="http://promonews.tv/videos/2015/03/23/all-we-are-utmost-good-james-beale" target="_blank">All We Are&#39;s Utmost Good</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

The world is dark, cultish and cutthroat place in Temptress&#39; video for Lies, directed&nbsp;by Fred Rowson.The black and white clip see the musical duo ritualistically slaughtered by a Wicker Man-esque Olde England cult, who just happen to be in the present day. Intercut with images of children at play, this is a sinister video executed with a wryness that only makes its presence felt on a second or third viewing.

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare&#39;s death, the British Council are releasing a film every month depicting a new interpretation of a scene from a play by the immortal Bard. The latest in the Shakespeare Lives series is this&nbsp;strikingly visual&nbsp;adaptation of a scene from Julius Caesar by&nbsp;Pedro Martin-Calero.&nbsp;Mark Stanley (Game Of Thrones, Dickensian) delivers Brutus&#39;s speech justifying the imminent assassination&nbsp;of Caesar to his fellow senators, in a scenario which combines a contemporary&nbsp;setting with elements of surrealism. And with his speech intercut with armed soldiers heading to eliminate Caesar, the&nbsp;ominous&nbsp;sense of a coup d&#39;etat unfolding is intensified by the fact this was filmed in the actual corridors of power.Due to the client and the nature of the campaign, Martin-Calero and crew had access to locations in the Treasury and the Foreign Office, where they filmed for two days.&nbsp;They certainly make good use of them, in a piece which is an object lesson on how the visual language associated with music videos can help bring the work of Shakespeare to a new audience. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;

And the fact they have staged a mini-orgy,&nbsp;of course...Quite apart from <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/35724844/years--years-ollys-shiny-pop-video-love-for-gay-relationships" target="_blank">the media attention</a> it&#39;s generating, the video confirms Alexander&#39;s pop nous - and with Fred Rowson as his foil, shows he&#39;s increasingly&nbsp;comfortable&nbsp;expressing himself in the&nbsp;medium.
