Jordan Rossi directs an empassioned promo for South African singer-songwriter, actor and novelist Nakhane, featuring Perfume Genius, with a work that takes its cue from some pillars of Queer cinema and art.&nbsp;The video for Do You Well begins&nbsp;with Nakhane and their love interest glistening under sparkling lights in a studio space, and then&nbsp;battling to create a common ground, before finally connecting with each other.&nbsp;Gorgeous and thrilling, the video visualises a complex set of emotions in a stylish and thought-provoking manner, and the end result is wonderfully alluring.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]"Nakhane already had a concept for this video," Rossi reveals.&nbsp;"It was very much centred around a wrestling encounter between two people in a homoerotic fashion. They wanted to express the idea of a duel and the ridiculous nature of aggressive masculinity."Nakhane and I drew inspiration from lots of Queer art and cinema such as Pink Narcissus by James Bidgood, Querelle by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Moonlight by Barry Jenkins and Sebastien by Derek Jarman. We also looked at features like Fight Club and Shame - both dealing with masculinity, sex and relationships in a unique manner.[imgtoken data:2]"Visually, I wanted a really deep and textured image with lots of energy. Tony Scott's turbulent yet cinematically rich style of compressed imagery was a huge source of inspiration here.&nbsp;"It's not every day you get to make projects such as this so a huge shout out goes to Faye who commissioned it, the record label for giving us complete creative freedom and Nakhane for being such a trusting collaborator."

Dylan tries to duck out of an overbearing relationship, in Jordan Rossi's promo for Nothing Lasts Forever.&nbsp;After being on the receiving end of a hugely awkward dinner date - complete with boombox serenading&nbsp;and a cast of dancers - Dylan makes her intentions clear, in a glossy, slick and upbeat concept.&nbsp;"Dylan is a creative tour-de-force which is what made the brief - which she wrote -&nbsp;so exciting," Rossi says."This video is Edgar Wright meets anti-romantic musical that allows Dylan’s unique blend of rule-breaking humour and charisma to come to the fore."As with all music videos there’s never enough of anything: time, money, patience. But everyone on the team worked super-diligently and collaboratively to pull all the stops out of the bag to make it a success."For me, I’m super proud of the fact that it’s a unique blend of gorgeous cinematic visuals, comedic moments and fun choreography. Pop videos come in all shapes and sizes now but this was our little throwback to old school pop: tongue-in-cheek with a playful sensibility."

Jordan Rossi takes Craig David into a colourful surrealist adventure for his video for&nbsp;My Heart's Been Waiting For You.Craig performs this garage-influenced club hit in a serious of increasingly surreal settings, with outer space encroaching into modern-day London. And periodically everything then suddenly ramps up into another dazzling visual dimension.[imgtoken data:1]"The brief was wide open," explains Rossi.&nbsp;"All that was stated was they wanted a green screen video that had the vibe of Craig's tour footage. I took that and ran with it, and wanted to craft a luminous surrealist fantasy that was equal parts Dali with Craig's R&amp;B-pop aesthetic."Craig was the best collaborator a director could ask for. Hugely respectful of the art but always wanted to push the boundaries creatively. It meant that what was a green screen video became a smash of reality and illusion in the most entrancing of ways. The final result is a fantasia of colour and other worldly scenarios. All seemingly familiar but with a twist."

Jordan Rossi directs a cathartic promo for Sir Tom Jones, featuring actor/dancer Iain Mackay.&nbsp;The track is a&nbsp;reversioning of the&nbsp;Bob Dylan song, and touches&nbsp;upon&nbsp;frank realisations about growing old, whilst still evoking a sense of positivity.The video focusses upon Mackay as a solitary drinker in a dive bar, chugging back the beers whilst&nbsp;lost in painful&nbsp;thought. As Sir Tom and the Dylan-penned track get going, his spirits start to improve. Soon he is off the barstool,&nbsp;dancing&nbsp;around the venue, leaving no part of the room untouched.&nbsp;And then, after reclaiming his sense of self, he leaves - driving off in a vintage Pontiac.[imgtoken data:1]"The concept for Not Dark Yet represented something very unique to me - even in the harrowing nature of this awareness of being near the end of your life there is a kernel of positivity that I wanted to hone in on," says Rossi."I remember writing in the treatment that you're never too old to have some fun and that's exactly what this is. No matter where life has taken you to you can always find a bit of fun somewhere. Particularly in the music."I really wanted to ensure that the video had some emotionality to it. I tried to imbue the video with every inch of detail that I could, some aspect that everyone would recognise in themselves. Whether that's the down-and-out start or the carefree climax or simply a love of music that is splashed across the entire piece.[imgtoken data:2]"I couldn't have completed the video without our protagonist Iain Mackay, ex-principal dancer from the Birmingham Royal Ballet, who came in at the last minute - literally the night before the shoot - and absolutely understood what we were trying to achieve."But also [DoP] Luke Scully who helped develop the visual style with me, Elle [Lotherington, 1st AD] who kept us on track throughout a tricky day and Natricia [Bernard, choreographer] whose energy and ingenuity never cease to amaze me."Scully's cinematography, including the use of&nbsp;different overlays and digital grain creates a slightly gritty and timeless feel.&nbsp;"The visual style takes inspiration from 1970s B-Movies and the Grindhouse genre, popularised in recent years by the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez," says Rossi.&nbsp;"But I chose to swap the action-packed gore for an upbeat two-step."

Elderbrook's cinematic track Broken Mirror&nbsp;becomes the vehicle for an authentic story, showcasing the issues facing many Queer people in 2021, helmed by director/photographer&nbsp;Jordan Rossi in collaboration with&nbsp; multi-disciplinary artist and creator Darkwah.Rossi's film follows a day in the life of a Queer performer played by Darkwah, and the reality of their experience, including the aggressions and microaggressions that impact personal safety and mental health.&nbsp;Together with a gut-wrenching sequence where Darkwah is cornered by a homophobic mob, there is also a focus upon the&nbsp;little stuff - small acts where their personal space is invaded, whether its being stared at and photographed in a cornershop, having their hair touched, or being touched inappropriately - that really resonates.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Darwah delivers a charismatic performance which allows moments of happiness, as well as ranges of pain and anguish, and ultimately shows a strength of character, in a spoken-word sequence towards the end, which displays their inner resolve and dignity. Rossi brings this all together superbly well, in a video which features terrific cinematography from DoP Charlie Knight.On the project Darkwah has said:&nbsp;“As soon as I saw the treatment, I knew I wanted to be a part of this project," says Darkwah.&nbsp;"It’s all of the things I’ve experienced many times over. It’s so important that aggressions and micro-aggressions are spoken about outside of the LGBTQIA+ community. We know these things. We experience them - sometimes at the hands of those in our community but more so by those outside of it."Having these occurrences shown at this level in conjunction with an artist like Elderbrook, I hope will not only generate more conversation but result in change for the better as people check the ways in which they interact with performers, Queer performers and Queer people. I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of this project. Dan Cadan and Jonathan 'Scully' Mowatt's latest video for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds&nbsp;brings the French nouvelle vague&nbsp;to modern London, and as with previous work for Noel, features a big name cast: Matt Smith and Gala Gordon play the lovers in a story inspired directly by Godard's Breathless.The video for We're On Our Way Now provides a snapshot of the lives of the couple, where an ambivalence and darkness lurks under the surface of a true romance. The directors also leave enough to the viewer's imagination to try to piece together a bigger story.As with the Jean-Paul Belmondo character in Breathless, Matt Smith is mixed up with some shady goings-on - either working for, or possibly against Noel Gallagher, who features in a cameo as a gangland figure. Smith bring depth to the part and is ideally cast. Dan Cadan and Scully bring us Christmas with a twist in their latest video for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. It's like Bad Santa meets the Ken Loach version of Bonnie and Clyde, starring Stephen Graham, and Hannah Walters.Taking a narrative-led direction this time around, the directors' third video for Noel - and his first Nöel-related music video&nbsp;- is a heartfelt story of northern grit, and fighting through against sadness and hardship in&nbsp;true salt-of-the-earth style.It's the story of a mum who meets Santa whilst doing all she can to make sure her kids have gifts at Christmas. As she treads carefully around a supermarket, aware of the security guard's gaze, she picks out a few items and slips them into her bag. When the guard catches on, she needs help from her guardian Santa to help make her getaway.Then it&nbsp;becomes clear that they are like modern Robin Hoods, attempting to bring Christmas cheer where its most needed. And there's a lump in the throat twist in the end (if you hadn't already guessed it) for good measure.It's a film that packs a proper seasonal punch, full of gritty, poignant seasonal goodwill. The core is that&nbsp;palpable emotion between Santa and the single mum - not so surprising perhaps, as Graham and Walters are a real-life couple.&nbsp;You may prefer this to one those perennial tear-jerking commercials trying to sell you stuff...

One of New Rules' first official videos, 24 Hours&nbsp;tells the story of a break up where you spend all your time with your partner, but afterwards you are left with a huge empty void in your life.&nbsp;Split between a minimalist blue room -&nbsp;where the group lounge around, waiting for time to go by -&nbsp;and a black and white, high contrast performance setup, the wistful yearning and eventual acceptance that come with&nbsp;heartbreak are visually represented through striking&nbsp;art direction and superb performance from the newcomers.&nbsp;
