Maxim Kelly creates an off-kilter tribute to '90s rave culture for Belief&nbsp; -&nbsp;the experimental dance music&nbsp;project of Stella Mozgawa&nbsp;and Boom Bip - featuring an impish dance elf who finds himself in an empty office. With a birthday cake.&nbsp;The video for Dreams, sees this intriguing&nbsp;character - played by Mark Crawley - break into expressive moves, as he confusedly comes to terms with his surroundings, and begins to sense&nbsp;the nearby presence of another figure: his somewhat hairier döppelgänger.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]In keeping with the era and the mood that he and DoP Arthur Loveday were trying to evoke, Kelly chose to shoot the video on MiniDV - the domestic format that was state-of-the-art back in the early 90s. But it is also composed and lit to make the format look as professional&nbsp;as possible, which gives the footage a&nbsp;distinctive&nbsp;high-end lo-fi quality.Kelly says that the video was inspired by watching rave footage from the 90s, and marvelling at "people looking their worst but feeling their best, and dancing the night away" - and also a certain kind of video from the era.&nbsp;"There’s a sub-genre of music video which became very popular for a time. It’s just one person dancing in a pertinent space. I wanted to make my version of that video. Almost like a parody."[imgtoken data:2]He adds that the&nbsp;decision to shoot on MiniDV was an aesthetic choice, and a homage to 90s rave footage. "Early on, Arthur Loveday and I decided to imagine that we were making a music video with the best technology we had available - and work to make it look as good as possible," he says."People today, when they shoot MiniDV, try to make it look bad, jerky and add glitches. But the technology is still great, and you can get some stunning results if you take the time and care to shoot it appropriately. And, it doesn’t hurt if you have Tom Mangham at Black Kite grading it too!”

Ozzie Pullin directs an affectionate promo for James Bay, exploring a couple's journey through their lives together.&nbsp;Celebrating milestones such as moving into a new house and having a child, we see them share intimate moments through VHS and film footage, as if it were shot themselves.&nbsp;"I loved the idea of playing with memory and nostalgia, but seen through the most intimate and personal perspective," says Pullin.&nbsp;With a beautiful performance interwoven throughout the narrative, it's a great little video that packs an emotional punch.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dean G Moore directs a conceptual narrative promo for Every Song&nbsp;by Duvall,&nbsp;featuring Bshp.The director's debut music video&nbsp;explores his fascination for&nbsp;dystopian themes, with moody stylised vignettes exploring a twist on ancient bedding ceremonies.&nbsp;The artist's initial idea involved the idea of being separated from someone you care for and having to find them, and&nbsp;Dean reinterpreted this to create a&nbsp;world where&nbsp;‘Big Brother’ takes married couples away for their own amusement.Oversaturated red lighting and a nondescript location add to the enigmatic aesthetic, whilst top-notch performances from the cast help sell the high concept idea.&nbsp;

Jake Dypka directs a stirring portrait of everyday life at an English seaside resort, in his promo for Brighton-based duo Memorial's version of&nbsp;A Hero's Death.&nbsp;Filmed in Skegness on the East of England coast - in and around the local Butlin's holiday resort - and shot in a documentary fashion, a static camera captures snapshots of seaside experiences, framing different characters in their own thought-provoking vignettes.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Dypka combines observation of holiday-goers with prosaic&nbsp;still lives, capturing a world that feels as if it has barely changed in decades. Meanwhile, the Memorial duo&nbsp;are lowkey extras on the Crazy Golf range and elsewhere.With lovely cinematography from DoP Arthur Loveday, the approach owes something to the hyperreal aesthetic of Martin Parr, but with much less of the photojournalistic cruelty. Dypka gained the confidence of his subjects, who gave their permission to be filmed, and the&nbsp;result is a&nbsp;magical marriage of craft and naturalistic performance.It stands out as one of the best of its kind in a long time - for a lovely cover of the Fontaines DC song.[imgtoken data:2]

Things get avant garde and disturbing in Samuel Taylor's video for The Murder Capital's&nbsp;More Is Less.Focusing on a commodity that is used, enjoyed and exploited by the characters, the visuals are vague yet all-encompassing, uncomplicated yet confusing. The patchwork of dirty black and white vignettes are as abstract as they are beautiful, and the project invites viewers to draw their own meanings and metaphors.&nbsp;DoP Arthur Loveday creates stunning compositions utilising the derelict industrial location and abundant natural light, and the result is&nbsp;grainy, raw and wonderful.

In a career now spanning over a decade Metronomy have made some outstanding music videos, working with directors like&nbsp;David Wilson, Daniel Brereton, Dent de Cuir and Michel Gondry. But here's a landmark moment, for their new song Lately:&nbsp;for the first time the band's frontman Joseph Mount has taken up&nbsp;directing duties himself.And, with a combination of performance, lo-fi VFX, and dry humour,&nbsp;it's very Metronomy. There's&nbsp;a nod to the '80s, and in particular the classic film Honey I Shrunk The Kids, as Mount and his fellow bandmembers emerge from the spools of a cassette tape, found by a schoolgirl in the park and brought back to her bedroom.&nbsp;But the tiny band need to be careful, especially&nbsp;when the teenager's dad threatens to squash the band...

Benn Veasey gives the performance genre&nbsp;a gravity-bending spin with this&nbsp;excellent video for Merthyr&nbsp;Tydfil rock outfit&nbsp;Pretty Vicious.Veasey gets the band to perform their piledriver Are You Entertained? in a very challenging but apt location: inside a centrifugal drum at an amusement park. With the camera at the centre of the contraption, the fourpiece play the song as the drum starts to spin, and they become pinned to it&#39;s walls.The result is completely satisfying, with the band continuing to play whilst battling against the effects of centrifugal forces - and clearly having a blast in the process. And as they were reportedly still spinning from the night before the shoot, that&#39;s all the more impressive.You may feel dizzy, but you will&nbsp;definitely be entertained.
