Joe Connor has directed a gorgeous video for legendary Japanese pop star Hikaru Utada - using in-camera ingenuity to flood the space where she dramatizes the heartfelt track Bad Mode.The video is something of a departure in style for the director, but in creating an alluringly dreamlike edge to proceedings, Hikaru comes over as both proper pop star and intriguing artist - enigmatic,&nbsp;sensitive and strong.It's courtesy of great work not only by Connor, but also DoP Alex Jamin and production design by Luke Moran-Morris. And you'll ultimately find out why the main set was built on stilts over a water tank.

Liam Gallagher and Christmas - on the face of it, not the likeliest combination. But Anthony Byrne manages to reconcile this&nbsp;apparent contradiction in his video for All You're Dreaming Of.Not that Yuletide is explicitly mentioned here, but Byrne keeps things simple yet seasonal, with Liam being his unsmiling, arguably Grinch-like self in a couple of reasonably festive settings. Working with editor Chris Roebuck, he has layered images over each other to inject a dreamier atmosphere. And as with his previous video for Gallagher, for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/08/30/liam-gallagher-one-us-anthony-byrne/60493" target="_blank">One Of Us</a>, the director best known for his work on Peaky Blinders completed this one in black and white.Ultimately it's Liam's heartfelt delivery of the song that gets the seasonal spirit flowing - and also sparks memories of his great inspiration John Lennon, who died 40 years ago this month.And as all the proceeds of the release will be donated to the charity&nbsp;<a href="https://www.actionforchildren.org.uk/" target="_blank">Action For Children UK</a>, Liam really is more like Santa than that gruff exterior suggests.

Daniel Carberry and Carly Cusson collaborate to create an atmospheric and at times claustrophobic showcase for Australian singer-songwriter CLOVES.&nbsp;It's all largely achieved due an excellent appreciation of the interplay between shadow and light, as CLOVES finds herself in stark&nbsp;yet effectively-mounted scenes - representing different levels of a videogame - that visualise frustration, and the sense of being boxed-in."The inspiration for this video was the isolation, exhaustion and repetition that anxiety creates," says CLOVES.&nbsp;"It can feel like an over-functioning game in your mind. So I wanted to travel through my worlds game, each 'level' with a visual cue of what those barriers in your mind feel like - only to end up right back where you started, [in] what feels like an impossible cycle to break."

Directing duo Bedroom throw&nbsp;a post-breakup party in the video for Biig Piig's second release of 2020, Don't Turn Around.&nbsp;Shot in a lush mansion somewhere out in the sticks, we find Biig Piig - aka Jess Smyth -&nbsp;roaming around and being sad and gloomy, as she reflects on being in a toxic relationship and decides it’s time for some self-love and glowing up.Throwing caution to the wind, Jess causes mayhem across pink-hued vignettes, as she participates in opulent pillow fights, and&nbsp;commandeers&nbsp;a golf cart. And that's just the start of it.&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Alexandre Jamin uses sweeping camera movements and off-kilter closeups to tie in with the themes of freedom and self-love, with the cinematography matching the unabashed emotion of the concept.&nbsp;At the end of the day, as difficult as circumstances can be, heartbreak makes a great excuse to go out and party with your friends. There's the nice guy, the sweet guy, the bad guy - and when the perfect man is just a click or a swipe away, why not indulge and see what's out there?&nbsp;Mabel does just that, awakening several different subjects and interacting with them in a glass room, but ultimately decides&nbsp;she is better off with her girls.&nbsp;DP&nbsp;Alexandre Jamin utilises bold colours and&nbsp;FX lights to create a dynamic and vibrant aesthetic, which is matched by&nbsp;Lucie Red's impeccable art direction. Mabel's performance brings the heat and switches up the pace through several impressive dance setups. Cinematic, and with a heavy dose of nostalgia, this is a brilliant promo pulled off by a talented creative team.&nbsp;

It's a sweltering day in London, and Jorja Smith is kicking back in a swimsuit, surrounded by table fans.Opening in an apartment straight from the pages of a fashion editorial, we follow Jorja from this interior straight to the streets, where she performs in an underground tunnel, making even the most everyday location look exciting.Transitioning from day to night, Jorja takes a surreal journey on a motorbike, the vehicles and buildings around her blending into a hazy background. The red hues of the first scenes switch to deep blue as she arrives at an indoor&nbsp;pool, stripping down and cooling off with the public.&nbsp;The video is loaded with fashion references, the art direction and styling are front and centre, and Johnson's extensive experience with brands such as Nike and Fenty is apparent here. The cinematography by&nbsp;Alexandre Jamin is top-notch, and perfectly complements the concept.&nbsp;

Sophia Ray directs this sumptuously photographed story about a wannabe influencer for Ritual.Real life influencer Cailin Russo&nbsp;gives a heartfelt performance as Lili, a young woman on a mission&nbsp;for online validation. She experiments with different smiles, products and filters, and initially she finds success. But ultimately, there seems to be nothing she can do to stay relevant and&nbsp;raise her profile. As she loses followers and friends alike, her online world becomes impossible to differentiate from reality.You’ve seen this story before, but rarely with this much flair. The video has a close relative in Nosedive, the episode of Black Mirror in which Bryce Dallas Howard pays the price for her obsession with social media and interaction-based credit. But where Nosedive was all pastels and nihilism, Ray’s video is a more sympathetic portrayal.Alexandre Jamin’s photography is a delight, rendered in all the jewel tones and honeyed glow of an Instagram fantasy. And VFX artist Leanne Pletersky has done great work with frame-jumping texts and 3D graphics that look both realistic and absolutely part of the world they’re helping to depict. Ultimately the biggest credit goes to Sophia Ray, who achieves a great balance between her characteristic visual polish and narrative drive. She really shows what she can do.
