The second in a series of videos by William Williamson for Philip Selway of Radiohead's forthcoming solo album Strange Dance continues the story begun in the first. The video for Picking Up Pieces&nbsp;features the same quartet of iconic dancers as the video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2022/12/09/philip-selway-check-signs-life-william-williamson/79675" target="_blank">Check For Signs Of Life</a>:&nbsp;Siobhan Davies, Kenneth Olumuyiwa Tharp, Liam Francis and Simone Davies - with the piece also choreographed by Liam Francis&nbsp;and Simone Davies.Once again, it is filmed as a one-shot, with cinematography by DoP&nbsp;Adric Watson, this time working with colour 16mm film.&nbsp;The video features a spinning camera movement designed to mimic motoric pulse of the track, and takes it’s gorgeous golden brown autumnal colour palette from a painting made by artist Stuart Geddes in response to Selway’s new album.[imgtoken data:1]“We all viewed this film as a continuation of the last, with the choreography having echoes of our characters worlds whilst simultaneously unfolding new elements and emotions," says Williamson."I love the idea of creating a synergy between the music and the camera movement. So we not only decided to shoot this as a one take again, but the motorik pulse of the track and the powerful lyrics perfectly lent itself to a predominant circular camera movement. "Working closely with the dancers we wanted the constantly moving camera to be always revealing different components and layers of the performance, drawing attention to specific points within each frame as it passes by and the story slowly unfolds.“

Willliam Williamson has directed a mesmerizing one-take video, capturing a marvellous quartet of dance talent for Philip Selway.The video for Check For Signs Of Life, the first release from Strange Dance, the forthcoming solo album from Selway&nbsp;- best known as the drummer for Radiohead - features four&nbsp;renowned and award-winning dancers and choreographers: Siobhan Davies, Kenneth Olumuyiwa Tharp, Simone Damberg Würtz and Liam Francis.Produced by Uncommon Creative Studio, with black and white cinematography by Adric Watson, the idea behind the video came from the artist, who has envisaged a series of dance videos to accompany several tracks from the new album. Selway wanted this piece to explore imagined conversations between future and past selves, and to be based around this particular quartet of dancers.In the video, the camera takes the role of a fifth dancer with Steadicam operator Jake Whitehouse executing that highly demanding&nbsp;role. As William Williamson explains, it was an approach that emerged out of rehearsals with the dancers.&nbsp;“Working closely alongside Philip and choreographers Simone and Liam we set out to explore the complex relationship between future and former self through the medium of contemporary dance," he says. "Transcending time and moving through varied emotions, we wanted to create a film that will inspire the audience to hang their own narrative on."As we rehearsed, the intimacy and fragility of the choreography became so clear I decided to shoot it all in a single take. It meant pulling together the dance, camera and lighting, to communicate a sense of unity and power, which stays focused in the moment.”

Harry Barber directs an enthralling promo for Joe Unknown.&nbsp;"Joe came to me with the idea of burning this painting, which had some semblance of a journey finishing," says Barber. "And, as one journey ends, leaving behind a time and a body of memories both fond and bitter, a new one often starts."The promo is strikingly simple in concept, but contrasted against the tense atmosphere and rising screeches of sirens in the track, it becomes a powerful, gripping image.&nbsp;"We wanted to create something that had a beauty to it, but a contrasting chaos and anarchy brewing at the same time," continues Barber. "Something that felt reflective but energising. Something that pulls you in to that hypnotic state and then jolts you back out ready for pastures new."It's safe to say they've gone above and&nbsp;beyond their aspirations&nbsp;with this project.&nbsp;

After six&nbsp;years away, Jamie T makes his triumphant return - rotting in a gibbet in medieval rural England.Niall Trask directs the impressive comeback promo for The Old&nbsp;Style Raiders, shot in black and white with a rather unsettling concept at its core.&nbsp;The artist is being tried for an unspecified crime, and as he is left to fend for himself in the torture device, we witness maggots creep ever closer to&nbsp;his body...&nbsp;It's a bold take which mirrors the off-kilter creepy stylings of the artist's previous videography -&nbsp;including the excellent&nbsp;<a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/08/21/jamie-t-zombie-james-slater/28642">Zombie</a>&nbsp;-&nbsp;yet it also manages to keep an emotional, relatable core beneath the grunge and guts.&nbsp;

Niall Trask directs an eccentric promo for South London alternative group&nbsp;SCUDFM.&nbsp;The video for One Thing focuses on a married couple travelling around in a vintage French ambulance, in quite possibly the bleakest road trip ever committed to film.&nbsp;&nbsp;Their relationship is the definition of apathetic, with little more than a shared glance and mutual understanding between the two. He is hooked up to a can of Fosters via IV drip, and she feeds him yoghurt on the side of a dusty dirt road... But all of this comes to an end at their final destination.&nbsp;Brilliantly gloomy and bizarre, the film's success rests on the performances of the cast - played by two of the group's members - and Trask's idiosyncratic direction.&nbsp;

A young man battles with small town life, in Matthew Thorne's second video for The Howl and The Hum.Blending&nbsp;documentary and&nbsp;fiction worlds, the video&nbsp;in set within the beautiful Rhondda Valley of South Wales. Inspired by Small Fry,&nbsp;written by Hannah Lad, the concept&nbsp;explores themes of brotherhood, fatherhood and masculine connection, and is interspersed with portraits of real people from the community.&nbsp;Shot on 16mm, the video looks absolutely beautiful, and the remarkable locations&nbsp;add a real sense of scale&nbsp;to the project. The performances are brilliant all-round - particularly from Kyle Stead, who plays the central character&nbsp;-&nbsp;and the relatable themes are as authentic as they emotionally absorbing.&nbsp;

Malia James teams with Mimi Webb for a&nbsp;vibrantly colourful, warm and fuzzy&nbsp;take on a teenage break-up, set in a funfair - the appropriately-named Dreamland in Margate - for Halfway.Starting after&nbsp;the end of the relationship - where she thinks she sees her former love everywhere -&nbsp;we discover more about the love affair in flashback. Her heartthrob&nbsp;is there for most of it, but the spotlight is always on Mimi, as&nbsp;Malia James creates a gorgeously-crafted pop confection for the singer, employing the funfair setting to spectacular effect.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;The location played an important part in the authenticity of the story, with Webb being a local and having spent her early years on the Kent coastline.But James, herself born and raised in Texas, adds more than a touch of Americana to Margate. Which is becoming of a director who has worked with&nbsp;Halsey, MØ, Troye Sivan, Tove Lo and Rita Ora, among&nbsp;others. Now she has given Mimi Webb a shot&nbsp;at the big time.

Thomas Davis follows up his impressive series of videos for NOISY - most recently the wonderfully bonkers&nbsp;<a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2021/07/23/noisy-young-dumb-thomas-davis/72043" target="_blank">Young Dumb</a> - with something just as off-the-wall for the returning Frank Carter &amp; The Rattlesnakes.Unsurprisingly for the heavily tattooed tattoo artist-rocker&nbsp;with a song called Go Get A Tattoo, the video is set in a tattoo parlour. A nervous young man enters to have his first ever tattoo applied by Frank - but what happens next is much less predictable.When Frank's needle hits, and the customer howls in pain, we enter a darker, nightmarish world where Frank and the band tauntingly peform Go Get A Tattoo, and as the young man attempts to escape he is confronted by&nbsp;the rubber-masked presence of featured artist Lynks - emerging from a toilet.&nbsp;&nbsp;Davis and his team provide a stream of 'house of horror' sight gags - mostly created in-camera, with an added smidgeon of VFX -&nbsp;as the poor devil careers through his&nbsp;psychedelic nightmare, and finally imagine he is being consumed by his own tattoo design.&nbsp;It's a terrific vehicle for Frank Carter's no-holds-barred take on rock 'n roll - his tattooing skills, not so much...[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;

Yousef and Paloma Faith join forces in this modern twist on the&nbsp;Frankenstein story, in the video for Monster.&nbsp;Following the release of her BBC documentary&nbsp;Paloma Faith: As I Am,&nbsp;the fan-favourite single gets a vintage-inspired visual. Directed by Yousef with creative direction from long-time friend and collaborator Theo Adams, it takes the idea of the Monster head-on, by offering a new feminist take on Frankenstein with melodramatic Giallo&nbsp;and Bollywood stylistic influences.&nbsp;Though Faith is noticeably absent from the video, the concept is carried spectacularly by each of the performers, as well as Yousef's masterful use of cinematic language and mix of traditional and contemporary elements, to create something fresh and exciting.[imgtoken data:1]Featuring mesmerising VFX work at the climax - a given, considering the director's skillset - the video is left hanging on the question, who is the Monster? The women, the monster at the end, or the doctor himself?&nbsp;“The doctor represents society in general, showing how women are silenced, manipulated physically and mentally and then cast aside like they're nothing," comments Yousef. "Relating to the music industry which Paloma's lyrics are about, it shows how artists are churned out, disrespected and disregarded.[imgtoken data:2]"The aesthetic of the video is heavily inspired by the Italian horror genre epitomised by Giallo and Dario Argento’s supernatural horrors&nbsp;Suspiria&nbsp;(1977) and&nbsp;Inferno&nbsp;(1980), as well as vintage Frankenstein films like James Whale’s&nbsp;Frankenstein&nbsp;(1931).”Paloma Faith confirms that the inspiration for the song was personal. "Monsters is about my relationship with the music industry. and my career as a whole," she has commented.[imgtoken data:3]&nbsp;"There's this weird sense of feeling that women in the industry have a shelf life. With the video for Monster myself and Yousef wanted to reflect how society in general treats women whether it's physically or mentally.
