videoM83 'My Tears Are Becoming A Sea' by Sacha Barbin & Ryan DoubiagoSasha Barbin and Ryan Doubiago's new video for M83 is a spectacular sequel to the acclaimed videos that the French producer released a decade ago. In 2011, M83 released a trilogy of videos for the album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming - directed by Fleur&Manu. These films, produced by Division, told the story of a community of children gifted with supernatural powers who escaped from a school where a covert government force kept them locked up."To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the album, M83 wanted to illustrate a fourth piece, a fourth chapter that would take place in the same universe. But rather than setting it ten years later, we wanted to go back to the origins," explain the directors, Barbin and Doubiago. "That's why this story acts as a prequel to the trilogy - taking place ten years earlier in order to highlight the first moment one of these children uses their supernatural gifts."On the way to the hospital and moments before his birth, the child’s parents are victims of a horrible car accident. The unborn child is forced to use his powers to save them from within the womb. The idea was to show the literal birth of a superhero."The cinematic, stylised aesthetic encapsulates an emotional narrative and high-stakes drama scenes, whilst the use of slow-motion helps elevate the emotional pull of the concept. The visual effects also play a key role in both the narrative and the overall concept, and Mathieu Jussreandot does a brilliant job in this role.
