With no sign of his subway train arriving, Gus Dapperton decides its better to take a long walk home, breaking into spontaneous choreography along the way, in Kevin Lombardo's infectious dance promo for Homebody. The artist takes on a form of character acting, infusing the dance with comedic moments and an almost narrative structure to the movement.The candid-style camerawork lends a sense of realism to the concept, as do the unbothered passers-by. For them, it's just another night in NYC...

Noel Paul directs a gritty yet heartwarming promo for Ezra Furman. The video focuses on an unlikely pickup after a rough night at a rowdy dive bar. We see the main character - played by Elizabeth Scopel - dazed and confused, attempting to lose themselves with macho boozers on the dancefloor, before getting accidentally whacked on the head and knocked to the floor by an overenthusiastic patron. Elizabeth is picked up by NY cabaret personality and actor Daphne Always, who drives her to a hotel, cleans her up and sees the sunset in with a cigarette. This is terrific work by Noel Paul, beautifully shot by DoP Gabe Harden. The cinematic aesthetic and use of colour evokes vintage arthouse fare, and perfectly encapsulates the narrative concept.

Danica Arias Kleinknecht directs a breezy dance promo for Kito, Zhu and Jeremih. The video for Follow observes an eclectic handful of dancers - including Caleb Bonney and Stephen Ojo from Beyoncé's Black Is King film - as they traverse the grungier side of NYC, performing in tunnels, overpasses and anywhere that inspires them on the way. Beautifully shot by DoP Patrick Golan, the grittier aesthetic and heavy use of contrast is a step away from usual dance films, which often prefer soft lighting and landmark locations. The choice to flip this concept on its head is an inspired one, and makes for a brilliant visual.

Wendy Morgan has created an intense, claustrophobic video to reflect the powerful performances at the heart of this collaboration between RZA (from Wu Tang Clan) and Paul Banks (from Interpol) - AKA Banks & Steelz.Although it includes Morgan's signature use of dance - in case a troupe of great dancers including the legendary Storyboard P – as well as the artists, all suited and booted, its also characterised by winding camera moves that takes us from the street, through the inside of a derelict building and up onto a rooftop where the city skyline is both below and above. A climactic shot that creates an oppressive, dystopic vision of modern life.

John Newman belts out the vocals while Nile Rodgers jams on his guitar in Craig Moore's latest uplifting video for Sigala, shot in sunny New York City and jam-packed with some great urban dance sequences.The visuals are all singularly NYC, showcasing fresh performances up against the Big Apple's sprawling skyline as well as in the subway and on the basketball court. It's all street style, movement and high-energy elation, resulting in a video that gets you moving even as you're watching.

Noel Paul & Stefan Moore of That Go follow up their previous pop performance video for Brooklyn-based synthpop duo Chairlifts's Ch-Ching with this loosely action-themed clip which sees singer Caroline Polachek running after what we presume to be her Romeo.It's a watchable, atmospheric pop performance promo channeling pure, woozy night-time vibes and capturing the blurry action in neon-tinged Chinatown in downtown Manhattan.
