Director James Alexandrou's first video in seven years is an extraordinary one-shot anxiety trip for new artist Truman. The video for Charley Boy is his second as a solo director (after previously being part of the duo SCRATCH) and has just been nominated for Best Performance In A Video at the UKMVAs. And you can see why. The artist achieves the unusual feat of being half-drowned for most of the video, by a violent antagonist (played by Cavan Clerkin) who just can't seem to finish the job. Keeping up a lip-sync in a one-take is enough of a task when you're not underwater for most of it, and Alexandrou's concept really heightens the tense atmosphere. Ending with an unexpected resolution, it's safe to say that Alexandrou's return to the format - and Truman's debut - is bloody brilliant.
