Artist-director duo Mrzyk & Moriceau bring their unmistakeable visual style to a wonderful new video for a recently rediscovered recording by French electronic duo Cassius.

Dance On was the final track written by Cassius' Philippe Zdar and Boombass together before Zdar's passing in 2019. Originally recorded in 2018 and recently found in the duo's archives, the track encapsulates the spirit, energy and optimism that always sat at the heart of Cassius, a band that helped define the French Touch movement of the Noughties. 

And Mrzyk & Moriceau have responded to that energy in characteristic fashion, creating a richly imaginative world populated by surreal characters, playful transformations and psychedelic imagery in their instantly recognisable visual language.

Mostly working in old school 2D - the traditional mode of animation for their retro 60s influenced cartoon style - to create an absolute bombardment of imagery, there is also claymation and an interlude of live action as the pair incorporate vintage footage of Zdar and Bombass performing.

Ultimately Mrzyk & Moriceau deliver a vibrant and deeply celebratory visual with its constantly evolving stream of animated ideas. Rather than dwelling on nostalgia, the film embraces the sense of freedom, humour and collective joy that characterised Cassius throughout their career.

Driven by Zdar's unmistakable presence, the track becomes both an invitation to dance and a fitting celebration of the enduring legacy of one of electronic music's most influential acts. The video honours the spirit of Cassius, looking firmly towards the light, moving brilliantly with the track's euphoric pulse.
