Directing duo NEON KISS employ 3D scanning and photogrammetry to construct an artificial world that feels almost real in their latest collaboration with NOBAKINGSODA.

The video for Super Neuch sees the directors - that's Sam Bassett and Kevin Lanre - placing the British rapper in what at first appear to be conventional urban settings. But on closer inspection, there is something slightly off-kilter about the scenes in which NOBAKINGSODA finds himself, as we begin to see the limits of the scanned builds around him.

It's a subtle process and the focus always stays upon the man himself. But in the final moments, the camera travels back through each of the video's various locations, revealing their digital origins.

"We’ve always been drawn to forms of photorealism - especially in paintings and high-end computer graphics - that don’t rely on cameras or traditional lenses," say NEON KISS. "They exist in a kind of liminal space. The graphics and brushstrokes come so close to reality, but never quite reach it.

"There’s something compelling about that pursuit, trying to render the real as closely as possible, yet always falling short. Super Neuch is an expression of this idea. At times the backgrounds are nearly indistinguishable from the real ones. At others they fall away into black voids. A bit like unrendered digital spaces.

"For the styling, we teamed up with the King of Trainers, Franklin Boateng, and heritage streetwear brand Avirex to ground the visuals in a distinct cultural aesthetic. The track itself also pays homage to Oxide and Neutrino of So Solid Crew, icons of UK garage adding another layer of reference to the world we built."
