Gus Black directs a riveting introduction to singer-songwriter Sombr - that's 19 year old New Yorker Shane Boose - combining exciting performance with slow-motion drama.

The video for Back To Friends lands on the glamorous young people at a house party, captured in super slo-mo portraiture. Then these images become the screen backdrop to the artist and his band's stage performance. Black flips between the two, and in the party scene increasingly focussed upon Boose and one girl in particular. He's looking at her, but she avoids looking back at him.

This is an exercise in extracting maximum impact from a relatable moment of human interaction - and the crushing disappointment that ensues. Introspective, cinematic and fresh, it works well in representing the theme of the song as well as the exciting potential of Sombr.
