In Ali Gill's stylish and surreal video for Worcester-based artist Kristian Shelley - aka Inwards - a young woman is transfixed by the sight of a grasshopper during a party celebration to take a journey that will give her a glimpse into her future.

In the case of the woman, played by Eléonore Cabrera, she is drawn to the forest to peer into a tree trunk and witness a scene involving herself, a man and another woman - and a shocking possibility.

Gill explains that the idea of for the video for Tokeida Outlaw’s Floozy is based upon the Swedish tradition of Årsgång - or Year Walk - which involved taking a solitary trip (often to a Church or a forest), and undertaking a series of rituals which would grant the walker glimpses of the year ahead.

"In this video we follow a hesitant bride-to-be, as she mentally escapes her hen party to experience a Year Walk of her own," explains Gill. "This is the fourth time I’ve worked with Kris (Inwards). His music often conjures a sense of daydreaming to me - so this concept allowed me to a invoke a psychological setting, as well as creating a series of levels that the character (and video) could push through at pace - matching the pulse and momentum of the track.

"The video was brought to life by Eléonore Cabrera, who I initially saw acting in a Punchdrunk performance. This role was an incredibly physical one - running, crawling, dancing, screaming. Eléonore skilfully imbued the video with the necessary energy, whilst staying true to a character who feels trapped and alarmed.

"The video’s heightened tone allowed for a lot of experimentation with the camerawork - most notably in the ‘vision’ scene at the centre of the video. DoP Jacob Sacks Jones and his team played with bouncing roving lights off water, mirrors, and various textures - referencing the sensation of torchlight exposing secrets amongst a dark space."
