Purple Disco Machine & Kungs 'Substitution' by Swim Club
Rob Ulitski - 4th Apr 2023
A young man has gone missing under mysterious circumstances in Swim Club's sci-fi homage for Purple Disco Machine and Kungs.
Featuring a determined private investigator determined to find the man - played by Tino Pointiek, the German DJ/producer behind Purple Disco Machine - the narrative for Substitution soon unwinds into a sci-fi conspiracy full of aliens, body-snatchers and weird döppelgängers.
With nods to sci-fi classics like Close Encounters Of The Third Kind it's full of anachronistic technology and excellent character and prop design. And the 80s TV news aesthetic leans into the nostalgia of high-concept yet low budget science fiction films.
A wonderfully weird visual for the latest offering by Piontek, aka PDM.
