Directing duo Mr. Mr. - that's (Mr.) Ato Yankey and (Mr.) Jack Ker - have created an grittily atmospheric portrait of life in the hometown of rapper KiLLOWEN. 

The track Bar Fights & Poetry is something of an ode to the KiLLOWEN's past, and Yankey and Ker, and DoP Rik Burnell, have captured the essence of the experience with a mixture of performance portraiture and still life photography, shot in the artist's hometown of Hayes, London.

The video celebrates the town and culture which moulded the artist, explores the notion of subjectivity, finding beauty in unexpected places and questions our perception of the conventionality within commonly lived experiences. 

"The initial inspiration of the video stemmed from the track’s cover art, a portrait of KiLLOWEN in front of a scaffold-wrapped building," say the directors. "Glitter spills out of what would otherwise be, the darkest parts of the image and a chalkboard that reads 'Bar Fights & Poetry'.

"This duality instilled the video’s theme, and the fisheye lens it was shot on, provided us with the beautiful circular motif [which] threaded throughout the video."

That circular theme includes an array of portraits of round objects - from wheels to dartboard, fry-up plate to ecstacy pill, and more - intercut with 360 and fisheye lens shots, and the rapper's reflective performance in locations around the town. It all works really well to bring those opposing forces in the songtitle together.
