Charlie Starmer-Smith 'Spotlight' by Rupert Bryan
Rob Ulitski - 9th Dec 2021
Rupert Bryan directs a poignant promo for Charlie Starmer-Smith's Spotlight.
Shining a light on the devastating effects that Alzheimer's has had on the artist's father - rugby legend Nigel Starmer-Smith - Bryan opts for a clear, natural landscape as a backdrop to the concept.
Starmer-Smith's performance is full of emotion, and quite rightfully the focus of the entire video. The theme of the track and the lyrics are the real stars of the show here. Both artist and director ensure that the message is heard loud and clear throughout.
"We wanted to create something with a sense of space, something breathable, but that was also thought provoking," says Bryan. "The cliffs and landscape gave us excatly what we needed and acted as a backdrop for the images. An extra bonus was the sun shining.
"Charlie wanted to find a lighthouse, as his father, who suffers with Alzheimer's, has a connection to one. We hunted down two near each other to help us tell a story and make the connection."
All proceeds from the track will go to the Alzheimer's Society.
