This is not the usual Christmas, and Kodaline's This Must Be Christmas is not the usual Christmas song. Lee Holmes's video for the song adds some realism to the season of goodwill: it's set in a London pub, where a hard-working, badly-paid little helper is enjoying a few drinks after apparently being made redundant.

She was lucky to find a pub that's still open...

"Kodaline's new song 'This Must Be Christmas' is about drowning your sorrows at a pub, so not exactly what you'd expect from your traditional Christmas song. As such the video has that Christmas feel but with a twist. Playing on the idea that Santa's elves are like seasonal workers who live amongst normal people during the year until Christmas comes - and in these uncertain times, it makes sense that their job security is in the balance, just like the rest of us.

"Drawing from the band's Irish routes, we wanted to set the video in old school Irish feeling pub and we shot on Atlas Orion anamorphic lenses to create that atmospheric, cinematic feel to suit what is a very narrative-based video."
