AK Sports 'Houdini' by Conall O'Brien
Rob Ulitski - 23rd Nov 2020
Conall O'Brien directs a 90's video game-inspired promo for AK Sports, where frustrated clubbers deprived of their usual fun in the year of Covid, can finally get some club kicks.
O'Brien presents a virtual experience, in old school videogame form for Houdini, which takes us through the ritual and routine of a big night out, with a lot of nostalgia and a fair amount of humour thrown in - with the mysterious AK as our guide and mentor.
Reminiscent of a very specific moment in time, where the advent of technology clashed with retrofuturism, the aesthetic is a refreshing takes on 90's aesthetics, with a nostalgic injection of social nostalgia.
"Made entirely during the first lockdown, the film is inspired by old playstation games and the London nightlife scene a lot of us are missing right now," says O'Brien. "So we decided to bring the party to your computer screen and fuse the two together inside a Matrix-esque simulation."
Just be careful not to overdo it...
