Mellah 'Habit' by Thomas James
Rob Ulitski - 10th July 2020
Thomas James drops the self-destructive new video for Mellah's Habit.
Shot entirely during lockdown, the visual features many versions of the artist, who discover increasingly disturbing ways to hurt himself/themselves.
From lemon juice in the eye to glass bottles smashed across the head, Mellah's clones just can't seem to break the habit - and all take huge pleasure in the pain.
DoP Ruben Wooden Dechamps uses off-kilter framing and excruciating close-ups to match the perplexing and uncomfortable concept, and the use of sci-fi-esque lighting in the bridge adds to the offbeat vibe.
