James Smith 'Rely On Me' (Live) by Gregg Houston
Rob Ulitski - 26th Nov 2019
James Smith performs a heartfelt acoustic version of Rely On Me, directed by Gregg Houston.
Set in an isolated brick room with only Smith and the pianist, the visual is intimate and engaging whilst highlighting the considerable talent of both performers. Shot in one take, the focus is solely on the music, and it's executed perfectly.
GREGG HOUSTON:
"We spent a day filming a few live sessions with James Smith a while back. Each song was to have its own feel and for Rely on Me I decided a one-shot performance would be perfect. We wanted nothing to distract from the emotion of the performance and song.
"This was the last take of the day. We had almost run out of time and the piano movers were just off-camera waiting to pounce. Josh Brooks on Steadicam absolutely nailed it. Even after seeing it countless times I am still in love with Darren's lighting choices."
