One True Pairing 'I'm Not Afraid' by Ewan Jones Morris
Ewan Jones Morris follows up his excellent new video for Anna Meredith with another distinctive tour de force for One True Pairing, the new project from former former Wild Beasts songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Tom Fleming.
Fleming performs I'm Not Afraid while also dancing with unselfconscious abandon in a neutral space. It's a performance created from stills, and this becomes the canvas for the next layer of craft, a collage of images to match his face, hands, feet and the remainder of his dancing self.
Then the collage technique switches to the background behind Fleming, and we see beautiful landscapes, textures and patterns cut through the silhouette of his body. It's a trademark example of Jones Morris's brand of creativity: eclectic, imaginative visual ideas bursting from simple foundations.
"Tom was keen to throw some shapes and I was keen to throw some pictures on those shapes," he says. "It was a bit of an experiment, but it seems to have worked."
