Palace 'Martyr' by Claes Nordwall
Promo News - 11th Apr 2019
Claes Nordwall creates an atmospheric performance video for London band Palace, returning to action with the song Martyr.
With the addition of painterly set-ups evoking the works of old Masters, Nordwall gives the video an appealing art school sensibility. And it was shot, appropriately enough, in the old Central Saint Martins campus basement in Holborn, London.
CLAES NORDWALL:
"The aim was to make a dynamic performance visual using a few different analogue lighting techniques. The symbolically charged b-roll loosely references the old concept of martyrdom via projections of famous paintings by Caravaggio, Le Brun and Delaroche.
"Then paradoxically, we also reference the modern concept of being a 'martyr' in relationships with dissonant and veiled imagery, highlighting difficulty in communicating emotion."
