Favourite Colour: Black (Chris Turner) second video for new artist Alice is a highly stylised performance piece, with an undeniable retro feel, but with its foot still firmly in the 21st century.

Within a series of nicely art-directed setups, the combination of dim lighting and red luminescence adds to the atmospheric feel of the video.

“I always think very visually when I’m in the studio and Heartbreak Hotel was no different,” says Alice. “I already had the concept for the video in my head whilst writing the song – we have rehab for everything else so why not for the broken-hearted?!

“I loved working with Chris on my first video GIRLS X BOYS and was so happy we got to collaborate again on this one. He comes with great ideas and I love all his references. He works with a fantastic team who help make the shoot day as stress free as possible and I’m so happy with how the video turned out.”

"Alice always comes to a project with lots of her own ideas. Working with her is less about putting a prescriptive treatment forward, and more about finding a narrative and visual style to link together all of her ideas.

"On the surface this video seems pretty simple - set in a kind of seedy hotel, it’s a fairly straightforward response to the song’s title. But we enjoyed working a deeper concept into the visuals through photography, lighting, styling and choreography. The overall idea being that the girls ‘check in’ in funereal black, are ‘processed’ in red, and eventually ‘purified’ in white."
