Bob Gallagher's video for Participant is a melancholic meditation on loneliness, and another example of the director's skill in creating intriguing dramas that also suit the music video format.

Telling the story of a young male prostitute, there's plenty of bleakness here, including a montage of his degradation. But we also get to know a character still capable of tenderness; his feelings for one of his clients, and yearning for companionship.
