Disturbed 'The Sound Of Silence' by Matt Mahurin
Cat Velez - 10th Dec 2015
Matt Mahurin, who helped define the style and look of American music videos in the Nineties with his videos for the likes of Metallica and Tom Waits, has directed this video for heavy metal rockers Disturbed's take on the Simon & Garfunkel classic The Sound of Silence.
Made up of painterly, monochromatic compositions, it sees the band in a desolate, war-torn landscape, as they rescue instruments from the rubble. Solemn yet epic in tone and scale, the video is a heavily stylised proposition which honours music in its triumph over hopelessness, illustrating its ability to strengthen and unify the surviving masses.
