Two years after he made the arresting short film Flatbed, director Tom Merilion has found himself making surprising return to music videos, the medium where he first made his name in the Nineties. After the film had appeared at several film festivals, Skye Edwards, formerly of Morcheeba, saw Flatbed and approached him with a request to use the visuals as a video for her song Said & Done.

Merilion agreed, and such was the nature of the film that a slight re-edit was all that was required to make it work extremely well with the track. It is essentially a contemporary dance piece, with dramatic, erotic and surreal elements, that takes place in a very unusual setting - upon a flatbed lorry, speeding down a deserted motorway.

It is not the first short film that Skye Edwards has repurposed as a music video, and it may be a growing trend. But with its original use of dance and VFX, Merilion (now represented for commercials by HLA) had a film that was perfect for the job.
