Krista Papista 'Modern Girlhood' by Claudia Mallart and Krista Papista
Cat Velez - 9th Oct 2015
Claudia Mallart's debut music video collaboration with Krista Papista's Modern Girlhood merges raw performance with feminist statement. It sees the angst-ridden artist stripped bare, in an expressive series of clips where she goes topless but wears her heart on her sleeve.
CLAUDIA MALLART:
"There are very strong cultural beliefs and concerns in this video. This is a feminist video about Modern Girl Power. Until this very day, in the US it is illegal for a woman to be topless in more than 35 states; the same laws do not apply on men. When a woman posts a topless picture of herself on instagram, her photo will get deleted for violating the guidelines; the same rules do not apply on men."
"The censoring of the female nipple connotes the idea that women should hide and feel ashamed of their nipples while men can flash them whenever they want. This is clearly sexist and unfair. This is a modern video facing an archaic problem."
