Paul Kalkbrenner 'Mothertrucker' by Björn Rühmann
Cat Velez - 20th July 2015
Mothertrucker is the second instalment of the 'Florian' video trilogy, spanning three tracks by German electronic music producer Paul Kalkbrenner. Written by creatives Alexander Nowak and Felix Richter of Droga5 New York and directed by Björn Rühmann, the material was shot over four days in Los Angeles.
The first instalment, Cloud Rider, introduced the painfully naïve yet lovable Florian, a young foreigner who compulsively shares the music he loves with strangers he meets on the street, only to be aggressively rejected.
The second instalment continues directly after the first. Now Florian is bruised, blooded, battered and, not surprisingly, very upset at been beaten and robbed of his music player and headphones. He's also angry, and through his rage he begins to find some inner strength.
Which, in this parable about the outsider role of the electronic dance music genre in the US, leaves us nicely set up for the third and final instalment: Feed Your Head.
