The Bohicas 'To Die For' by Nathan David Smith
Jimmy Brown - 26th Jan 2015
Essex indie fourpiece The Bohicas find themeselves dropped into a surreal operating theatre in Nathan David Smith's promo for their new single To Die For. Shot at One Red Eye Studio, it's dark, occasionally grisly, and comic - and made all the more effective by Marcus Autelli's clean - almost sterile - photography...
NATHAN DAVID SMITH:
"This was one of the most fun shoots I’ve ever worked on. There were a lot of those moments where we'd stop for a second and think, 'what on earth are we shooting just now'… because on the set there’s a surgeon pulling clown ribbons out of a torso, and you just had to laugh.
"When I first sat down with the band we all agreed we needed to make something that wasn’t your standard rock performance video, and the guys started unleashing all these surreal, dark ideas. We really aimed just to take everyone’s first impressions and turn them on their head, to juxtapose what you know with what you don’t, giving the viewer something familiar and then taking it to the ‘wrong' conclusion.
"The DP (Marcus Autelli) did a great job of mixing all these ideas together, creating a faux-medical-drama feel with all these melodramatic, sitcom-style moments. It’s a fun vibe, and it’s not what you’d expect."
