Henry Krinkle 'Stay' by Jeppe Kolstrup
Jimmy Brown - 23rd May 2014
Soundtracked by the summer vibes of Henry Krinkle's Stay, shot in LA and in collaboration with fashion house SSENSE, director Jeppe Kolstrup stylishly documents Californians coping with a major heatwave.
Particularly timely in the current drought-torn state...
JEPPE KOLSTRUP:
"My vision for the video was to portray the claustrophobic feel in a suburb emphasized by the devastating heat leading to quiescence, boredom, aggressions, longing and pure lechery.
"A film with a subtle narrative carried by two leading characters that are almost pacified by the heat. The drama is all in the details and in the mood. A mood inspired by the heatwaves in Larry Clark's Kids and Scott Kalvert's The Basketball Diaries.
"Due to the lack of money we considered to shoot it in Denmark. But the Danish clouds don’t really allow the sun to shine. So Riff Raff worked out some magic and struck a deal with the designer shop Ssense that allowed us to fly overseas to the always-hot L.A.
"But a couple of days before the shot it started raining massively... Luckily the weather gods helped us out. The day before the shoot a humid heat started to choke the city and the shoot days turned into an actual heatwave. Good for the vibe in the video. Bad for the hard working crew.
"We shot the video in the suburbs of Venice with a dedicated crew lead by the gifted L.A. DP Drew Bienemann that also captured the video for Grimes’ Genesis. After an intense week of editing with the two young Danish editors Adda Elling and Mik Stampe the video has turned into one of my best films."
