Yuck 'Middle Sea' by Michael Lawrence & Oliver Goodrum
David Knight - 5th Nov 2013
Just two guys, father and son, having a friendly game of tennis under floodlights... But it all gets thoroughly, wonderfully nasty in Michael Lawrence and Oliver Goodrum's video for Yuck's Middle Sea, as dysfunctional inter-generational rivalry comes to the fore.
With the casting of Yuck's Seth Rogen-lookalike drummer Jonny Rogoff as the younger man, and a Sydney Pollack lookalik actor as his dad, this has a classic American comedy, almost Woody Allen feel about it - even though it was actually captured at the Eastbourne tennis club (where top women tennis players normally play a pre-Wimbledon tournament every year).
It was also a one-off pairing of the prolific Michael Lawrence, who came to this job during a long American tour, pulling his friend Oliver Goodrum on board, when confronted with a quite a specific brief involving Jonny's tennis playing from the label (as Michael explains on the entertaining BTS film also here). And the end result is very amusing indeed, for a splendid slab of Yuck alt-rock...
