Gary Barlow 'Let Me Go' by Ben Winston
Jimmy Brown - 18th Oct 2013
Following his record-breaking success of his Best Song Ever promo for One Direction on Vevo, Ben Winston takes Gary Barlow to the streets of New York for the promo to his big comeback single Let Me Go - his first solo outing for 14 years.
Mr Barlow pushes an upright piano around a Brooklyn neighbourhood, sets up shop in the middle of the street and starts to entice the locals to party with him...
Ben Winston: "Working with Gary is brilliant. He is a fantastic artist and it's a fantastic song. To direct Gary's first solo video in many years is a real honour for me. Let Me Go is the sort of song that that makes you want to get up, dance and enjoy yourself, whatever age and whatever music someone is into. I think that's a common theme in a lot of Gary's music. This lead to the idea of a coming together, an impulsive street party. Locals of all shapes and sizes coming together to enjoy themselves. It's a really happy video.
"We decided to shoot it in Brooklyn as I used to hear all about the amazing block parties they had there, where whole streets would come out and enjoy performers playing for them. The idea of Gary with his music bringing a community together was one that I really liked.
"It was actually really lovely. Although a lot of the people in the video are "extras," plenty of them really were locals who were just walking by or heard the music in their houses and wanted to come out and join in as they loved the track. It really did end up like a street party.
"And I think New York is one of the only places where a guy can walk through the city pushing a piano and no one bats an eyelid. In New York nothing is considered that strange."
