Hermione Sylvester directs an intense and evocative promo for London alt-rock band Keo. Sylvester's video for That's Me boasts a surreal, grungy concept following a lonely man's search for puppets, intercut with the band's feverish performance led by charismatic frontman Finn Keogh. Just as the band are influenced by grunge and shoegaze, the video has a similar sensibility. The colour palette and handmade elements of the pared-back set contribute to the video having a strong connection to the energy of the track. This would not have looked out of place on MTV2 or Scuzz back in the day. [imgtoken data:1]

Nia Archives is on the run in Iris Luz's exuberant video for the London singer's new Britpop-influenced banger.Relentless forward motion is the name of the game in the promo for Boys In Blue. Playing off the theme of the track - a former lover who 'snitches' on her to the police - Nia is running through the streets of Hackney and the nearby wide open spaces of Hackney Marshes. But keeping things as upbeat as the track, Nia is also relaxed and carefree in Luz's lens. She manages intimacy with the camera while running, framed within quick cuts of her running through different places and timelapse footage of London's homebound commuter traffic, in a vibrant cut by editor Geri Docherty. iris Luz has also shot the photography for Nia Archives' new album and she says: “Working with Nia is a joy as the song has such a rhythmic aspect to it, I wanted to emphasize that in movement.”

Shreya Jha takes Ledbyher through interconnected worlds for the propulsive Up To My Neck In U.The settings are surprisingly anachronistic for the up and coming rapper and producer who bounces hyperactively through settings which include a formal period dinner party scene and an old-fashioned puppet theatre - featuring a puppet version of Ledbyher."I wanted to do something a little unhinged, very art-heavy, and letting it live like a film," says Shreya Jha. "Rachel [LedByHer] moving through different worlds in a slightly Lynchian, weird, not-quite-linear way."We did four different set builds, one of which was an idea I really wanted to do, where we built miniature puppet version of Rachel and created a puppet show. This took seven days of prep, plenty of prototypes, but my production designer smashed it and created exactly what I envisioned. I myself sewed the clothes the puppets are wearing, I think this was the most a project has consumed from me literally."Super proud of what the team pulled together within the budget limitations and a super ambitious concept."

Grajper directs a moonlit, surrealist fantasy for The Last Dinner Party. The video for Count The Ways finds the group in the middle of a model village, performing as a montage of illusory vignettes play out on screen. Imbued with unearthly, liminal vibes, it's a striking concept and one that fits perfectly within the offbeat videography the group has built over the last couple of years. [imgtoken data:1]
Everything is familiar, but [the world] is too small, too artificial, too perfect.
"The heart of the song is about love, heartbreak, and the refusal to accept that something beautiful has ended," Grajper explains. "It’s about being trapped in grief, circling around loss, and being unable to move forward."For TLDP, that emotional space feels like being locked in a prison that is invisible yet everywhere, a cage built out of memories and feelings. That’s why the miniature park is such a powerful starting point. It’s a world that is at once charming and eerie. Everything is familiar, but it’s too small, too artificial, too perfect."When we place our heroine in this world she instantly becomes estranged from it: she is either too large for the space, breaking out of it, or she’s wandering through its streets like a ghost who doesn’t belong."

Fiona Jane Burgess directs the latest video for The Last Dinner Party in a real departure from their canon up to this point: a poignant, character-driven short film with no appearance by the band. The promo for The Scythe follows an elderly couple (played by Richard Durden and Eileen Nicholas) on a quiet journey through the English countryside, focussing on a series of scenes on the journey. Without a backstory or dramatic arc, it invites the viewer to fill in the narrative details themselves - and find beauty in the ordinary and unspoken.[imgtoken data:1]“The Scythe is a song about love, and so this film is a testament to that," explains Fiona Jane Burgess. "The band came to me with an idea about seeing an older couple on a journey, and I thought that was refreshing since we live in such a youth-obsessed culture."I also love road movies, so it was fun to have the opportunity to make one! The actors were fantastic and brought so much energy to the screen despite two very long and demanding shoot days."The shoot itself was an adventure, driving from place to place discovering hidden gems with a brilliant crew and meeting locals along the way (some of whom are in the film!) I worked with cinematographer Mika Altskan and we shot on 35mm 4-perf which was a dream."So many people helped bring this film to life and I'm so grateful to The Last Dinner Party and their team for being such amazing collaborators.”

Palice directs her debut music video, for Sigrid's Jellyfish. The video is a carefree, eccentric performance-focussed concept, shot in Bulgaria. Channeling the song's themes of awkward connection into a dreamy, sun-soaked world, the director's vision of an 'endless summer' day shines through, packed with nostalgic vibes. Leaning into an editorial style, DoP Samuel Hooper masterfully controls the light to create a beautifully soft, fashion-portrait aesthetic, working together with art director Sasha Hilton's eye for offbeat props and styling.Enhanced by Pierre Babbage's playful choreography and DOMA's excellent post work, it's a beautifully surreal video with plenty of standout moments. [imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]

Harv Frost returns with another spectacular promo for The Last Dinner Party - a surreal Soho-set Western for the first release from the band's second album. The video for This Is The Killer Speaking transforms London streets into a Western-style town, complete with its own dive bar, fashion and... ethereal centaur. Okay, maybe that's a new addition. [imgtoken data:1]In the same ambitious, stylish and often surreal aesthetic as Frost's previous collaborations with the band, it's a fresh vibe and a great introduction to the follow-up to their acclaimed debut LP Prelude To Ecstasy. HARV FROST:"Returning to work with TLDP was a dream, after collaborating together on the videos for the first album and our short for the album Prelude To Ecstasy. We have built such a rich mini-cinematic universe that was a joy to dive back into.[imgtoken data:2]"This time it was about doing something different, we wanted to burn the book on what we have done previously, and create something that combines all we have learnt from our previous videos."The pitch for the video was ‘the band wreaks Western-style havoc in Soho’ so I knew from the start it was going to be a challenge in itself - around the band’s availability we could only shoot on a Thursday morning for the Soho scenes, so that meant lots of curious passers-by and stopping traffic.[imgtoken data:3]"This a complete contrast from the locked-off controlled environments we were used to shooting in for previous videos, it posed a new kind of challenge. Thanks to 1st AD master Rose Lucas and the rest of the crew we managed to pull it all off while causing a bit of a scene."For this video my references were stooped in classic spaghetti westerns like Fistful of Dollars, Django and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, but wanted to give them this acid-western feeling and shoot them in a way that felt modern without being too pastiche. It was about carving out our own style.[imgtoken data:4]"The challenge was making something that felt unlike past TLDP videos that still kept that DNA. That theatricality and character but with a new lick of paint, a darker palette and an even a bleach blonde wig for Abigail. And in typical Last Dinner Party fashion, a western without horses, but rather, a centaur!"Always such a privilege to work with this powerhouse of a band, and to kick off the campaign for their second album."

The mirror becomes a portal. The barber’s chair, a site of quiet change. Fragments of Kae’s past performances are woven into a hypnotic rhythm, a dialogue between memory and voice. As the film builds, Kae is joined by a crowd of queer performers and dancers. There’s no spectacle, just joy, rawness, and presence. Loyle Carner embarks on a dreamlike journey in the self-directed video for the lead-off track from his forthcoming hew album.Loyle (real name, Ben Carner-Loyle) is tucked up in a child-sized bed as the video for Lyin' starts. As water begins to drip onto his head, the bedsheet becomes a device to set him on his travels. He finds himself in bed in the sea, then back asleep, waking up, leaving a public bathroom and entering a rush hour crowd of commuters and then - in a moment of brilliance - rising above everyone else.[imgtoken data:1]Eventually he finds himself walking into a crowded theatre and onto the stage where his bedroom is the set - and he walks back into the room. Throughout, Loyle is talking about the pressures and pleasures of fatherhood - a central theme of the new album hopefully! So the video is itself a surreal exploration of fatherhood, where both inner child and grown-up self are still figuring things out. According to the famous African proverb, it takes a village to raise a child - and the remarkable and emotional video for Kae Tempest's Statue In The Square could be seen as an embodiment of that idea. Kae's own village is all there with him in front of the camera lens. And also behind it.The promo for this stupendous track was created by a collective of filmmakers assembled specifically for the purpose by EP Juliette Larthe - as 5-person directing team Boy Dykes - with a huge cast from the queer and trans+ community. With so many different people on screen, and a range of in-camera devices to heighten the sensibility, elevating the urgency of the message, Kae remains front and centre. It is all, ultimately about him, proudly and fearlessly expressing his right to be a boy. It's powerful, affecting - a big moment for the artist that comes at an important moment for the community as a whole. [imgtoken data:1]"Our music video for Kae Tempest’s *Statue in the Square* is a powerful statement of resistance and visibility for the trans and queer community," writes the video's producer Gael Houdin-Brenac. "The song itself is an urgent, unfiltered cry against oppression, a declaration of strength in the face of systemic hatred. To honour that message, we assembled a production where 95% of the crew and cast are queer and trans+, ensuring that every aspect of the film is shaped by those who live the reality it speaks to."Directed by Boy Dykes - Juliette Larthe, Jess Kohl, Lydia Garnett, Jesse Glazzard and Romeo Roxman Gatt - the film is more than a music video; it is an act of defiance, a refusal to be erased, and a raw celebration of resilience. At a time when attacks on queer existence are intensifying, Statue in the Square stands as a counterpoint, a bold expression of identity and freedom."Every frame is infused with the energy of a community that refuses to be silenced, capturing the urgency and defiance that support the song itself."

Xavier Dolan directs a rousing promo for Elton John & Brandi Carlile. The video for Swing For The Fences is an emotional exploration of sensuality and liberation. Featuring a brilliant dance performance at its core, the video ponders religion, expression and societal expectations with a stunning, anachronistic aesthetic. The track itself is an anthem for LGBT+ youth, and this theme is explored through the presence of an enigmatic love interest in the latter part of the video. It's taken a while but the internet is going wild for Sarah Dattani Tucker's visual for Lola Young's Messy. And you can see why. In an empty, red-carpeted room - with the exception of a giant birthday cake - Lola Young gives a great performance of the wonderfully vitriolic Messy. There's no close-up - it's all from a wide-angled locked-off camera. But that works for Lola distinctive presence. Well deserved.

Dan French recreates the early 70s pop promo for Elton John's Step Into Christmas, and then imagines the almighty chaos that occured behind the scenes on the shoot - with the 1973 Elton played by actress and model Cara Delevingne. The hugely entertaining video reproduces shots from Elton's studio performance in the original visual - featuring Delevingne as an uncanny facsmile of glam-era Elton, plus doppelgangers of his band - while adding the story of the production team frantically attempting to add some festive flavour to proceedings. [imgtoken data:1]Despite the addition of a festive feather boa, balloons and confetti, chaos reigns as they wrangle an escaped turkey, fail to book a real reindeer (and find a donkey instead) and tackle a deranged fan who storms the set, all whilst Delevingne mirrors Elton’s choicest dance moves and iconic facial expressions from the original promo. On it's release over 50 years ago, Step Into Christmas failed to trouble the UK Top 20, but it's stepped up in seasonal stature in recent years. The song has charted each December since 2011, and last year it was certified Triple Platinum, 50 years after its release. And Dan French's evocative and consistently funny video is a marvellous way to celebrate it's long journey to becoming a Christmas pop standard.[imgtoken data:2]It also coincides with the release of a new documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late, where the singer looks back on his life and the astonishing early days of his 50-year career, which premiered on Disney+ last week. "I saw Cara at Glastonbury last summer, and we talked about how much we’d love to work together if the right idea came up," comments Elton. "She’s hilarious to spend time with, we both have quite a self deprecating sense of humour. When someone suggested the idea of her playing me in a riff on the 1973 Step In to Christmas video, I just thought it was the perfect opportunity. Thank God Cara thought the same, because it came out great."[imgtoken data:3]Cara Delevingne adds: "Elton has always been an idol of mine, to say his music has had a deeply profound effect on me is an understatement. To be asked by him to PLAY him in this recreation was a dream that I didn’t know I had until it happened."Honestly I wish I could pretend to be Elton every day. I hope that Elton may one day return the favour and agree to play me in my not yet developed, written, pitched or funded biopic. Fingers crossed."

Following her videos for the band, Harv Frost draws us further into The Last Dinner Party's distinctive universe with a short film, comprising of four music videos for the group, set in a mysterious all-female arts and dance academy. Drawing influence from the likes of Argento's Suspiria and other 1970s masterpieces, Prelude To Ecstasy works both as a single film and individual promos for the tracks - including The Feminine Urge, which has already been released as a music video. As a whole, and within the school setting that reinforces a narrative (whether true or not) about the origins of the band, Harv Frost takes the opportunity for each bandmember to shine, and for them to exhibit their unusually close bond as a group. And with Frost working with collaborators from previous videos, like DoP Natasha Duursma and production designer Furmaan Ahmed, there's strong thematic continuity with those projects. Once again, it's all about the passion, romance, melodrama and style, as well as the music, and with its marvellous execution Harv Frost and The Last Dinner Party have delivered a real treat for the band's fans. [imgtoken data:1] [imgtoken data:2][imgtoken data:3]

Harv Frost directs a characteristically expressive promo for The Last Dinner Party. The video for The Feminine Urge has an elevated, vintage vibe, delivering a devastating but relatable message. Each band member has their own performance vignette, visualising the cyclical nature of the stifling expectations placed upon women in society. The band members eventually liberate themselves via individual acts of subtle rebellion and enjoyment of their new feelings of freedom, even if it’s temporary. It's an important message, translated into a stirring visual montage. Anchored by a grand location and offbeat colour palette, the video has a heavy dose of otherworldliness throughout - and it's executed to perfection. "This was all about creating something that really embodied the feminine urge to throw a chair across a room or peel all of your skin off," explains Harv Frost. "Set in the backdrop of a prestigious dance school (à la Suspiria), it’s also about the expectations of brilliance and perfection of women in the public eye, and the desire to just let loose, and you know, smash it all up."

Harv Frost directs an infectiously fun take on the Bard in this new promo for The Last Dinner Party. The video for Caesar On A TV Screen exudes a whimsical, theatrical energy, as the band stage Shakespeare's Julius Caesar with gusto and no little melodrama - with lead singer Abigail playing the vainglorious Caesar and her bandmates as the Roman politicos who (mini-spoiler) plot to assassinate him. Firmly tongue-in-cheek with a playful, handmade-feel throughout - it's more like a clever school production than a TV adaptation - it indulges the band's evident inclination towards the theatrical. And allows us to speculate on whether the roleplaying reflects how the bandmates really feel about Abigail...It also marks a confident solo directing outing for Harv Frost following her recent standout collaborations with Dora Paphides, with the previous TLDP video for My Lady Of Mercy, and Chinchilla's Cut You Off. [imgtoken data:1]

As part of a series of 'micro music videos' created for U2's new album Songs Of Surrender - where the band have revisited some of their biggest songs, interpreting them afresh - Shan Phearon has given I Will Follow a visual that subverts expectations, and offers its timeless theme contemporary relevance: a powerful snapshot of inner-city drill culture. U2 frontman Bono's lyrics for the song - from their debut album Boy, and their first ever hit - were written from the perspective of his mother Iris, who died when he was 14. Bono's slightly revised lyrics ("A boy tries hard to be a man, His mother lets go of his hand, A gift of grief will bring a voice to life.") form the basis of his new performance of the song, more than 40 years since the original.[imgtoken data:1]Meanwhile Phearon's fiercely energetic 60 second visual stands as a counterpoint to Bono's reflective delivery, showcasing boys performing the Drill dance style known as Sturdy. The seeming clash of styles and cultures quickly recedes as the lyrics start to chime with the lives of the young males of today - and their dancing fits smoothly into the rhythm of the track. It stands within the whole Songs Of Surrender one minute video series, by over 40 Creators - in portrait mode only. Like rebellious punk and grime before, UK Drill is a response to broken British politics. UK Drill culture has codes: mythos, uniform, language, hand gestures, environment, dance. The Drill dance style - like Hip-Hop adjacent 'conflict styles' Breakdancing or Krump battling in eras past - is known as Sturdy."I was thinking about themes behind U2’s debut Boy LP... adolescence, teen angst, coming of age, etc. I thought: let’s reframe these through a modern European inner-city youth lens. I saw natural connections between U2's early themes and alienation, parenting, childhood trauma, teen behavioural issues, other deeper ideas around UK Drill and modern street culture youth.[imgtoken data:3]"It felt visually unexpected from U2 and uncommon in rock/alternative. UK Drill, integrated into the thematic universe of one of the great universal bands of all time, in an organic crossover moment - we hadn’t seen this cross-pollination done yet."More than anything though, I think it’s cool to see modern Rap and Rock n’ Roll ideas find common ground."

Shan Phearon directs a hypnotic fantasy for Jazmin Bean, featuring Lucy Loone. Combining clever practical elements, novel visual effects and imaginative CGI world-building, the video follows the two artists as they cruise around an otherworldly environment, causing carnage at every turn.[imgtoken data:1]The unique aesthetic is achieved through an innovative hybrid of digital and 35mm fused into one image, which heightens the surreality of the eccentric concept. A pastel-pink nightmare with huge ambition, it's a brilliant piece of work from Phearon and team.[imgtoken data:2]

Saorla Houston helms a terrific vehicle for FLO, who fly off to Greece for a holiday, going 'all in' for Summertime. This video for a new girl group with the classic R&B sound, has the girls shooting from mini-cams in addition to the key camera, radiating energy and happy vibes. It's well executed, and really feels that FLO had a fun time making it.[imgtoken data:1]"We shot this video over two days in Greece in mid-July," explains Houston. "The video was built from the girls' personal perspectives of their holiday; each of them - Stella, Renée and Jorja - had their own cameras to shoot on. It was a chance for them to take control of the camera and be their own directors."Their personal videos were the base of the edit, which was accompanied by hi-res footage shot on Alexa Mini which showcased their interactions with each other and their performances in six different locations around Athens - a hotel, bar, beach front restaurant, villa with a pool, car and a boat."My aim with this video was to showcase their friendships, energy and individual personalities, while giving the audience insider access to the world of FLO."

Unknown T and Dir. Lx create their own gripping drama, with none other than Top Boy's Ashley Walters, for Who Said Drill's Dead, the Homerton rapper's storming defence of the drill scene.Walters effectively reprises the iconic role of Dushane from Top Boy in the video, holding court in his favourite café, as per the TV show. Unknown T enters his domain, and risks his safety with his relentless lyrical flow in the face of an impassive, but increasingly impressed Ashley. Then Unknown T is off, back to his ends and his own boys, for the last performance-based section of the video. Gripping stuff indeed.
