He’ll do anything for a little dopamine, truffling for more drugs in every corner of his dirty apartment. And when it all catches up with him, he has the mother of all hallucinations. This day of excess is narrated, blow-for-blow, by Joe Rogan - in words borrowed from legendary journalist Hunter S. Thompson. The rabid protagonist is played with tense-jawed, red-eyed enthusiasm by Jack Morris. And the nightmarish VFX, reminiscent of cult channel <a href="https://www.instagram.com/cool3dworld/">Cool 3D World</a>, were supervised by ETC.<a href="https://www.promonews.tv/interviews/questionnaire-ian-pons-jewell/30545">Ian Pons Jewell</a> has a unique flair for affect and world building. He puts you through all the unpleasant sensations his characters experience. The texture of his bizarre worlds is so tangible and specific, it is as if you can actually smell it. His last video, <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/09/05/james-massiah-natural-born-killers-ride-me-ian-pons-jewell/60588">Natural Born Killers</a>, was a sweltering, end-of-the-world epic. Watching his evocation of wet, acrid heat, you’ll begin to feel your own sweaty, crawling discomfort.

Big-hitting commercials director Seb Edwards makes a spectacular splash into the world of music videos with this epic visual blockbuster for Jon Hopkins.A man returning from the shops into his dimly-lit housing estate encounters a woman like no other. For a start, she floats from the sky and then lures him into bliss with warm eyes, alluring movement and sheer physical magnetism. But then she starts to reveal another side to her nature - and her superhuman strength.Part dance piece, part-superhero film, part psychological drama, Edwards takes us into a self-contained world in which everything is at the service to the music - the characteristically pulsating electronica of Hopkins&#39; Singularity - and its achieved brilliantly. It&nbsp;has clearly been a labour of love for the director, and its a sheer joy to watch.

You can never be sure how likely or often a great music video director is to return once they&rsquo;ve begun flexing their cinematic muscles in longer formats. Jonze makes the occasional appearance. Gondry rocks back up once in a while with something as witty as always. Wolfe?Goddamn.With his first video in two years, this time for Paolo Nutini&rsquo;s Iron Sky, and just after finishing his already-acclaimed debut feature Catch Me Daddy, Wolfe doesn&rsquo;t just return to music videos, he punches straight to the gut.&nbsp;Like what.Nutini&rsquo;s voice howls above eight minutes of unnerving, haunting images. Each shot filled with its own form of agony. A distant dystopia that feels uncomfortably familiar. Pervasive desperation. Visceral brutality. Looking for salvation through religion and chemicals in equal measure.Wolfe manages to create a video that is as distressing as it is beautiful. Insightful. Alarming. While others take what they&rsquo;ve learned in music videos to features, he&rsquo;s brought it all back; an earnest cinematic poetry that&rsquo;s increasingly rare in our industry.Six minutes in, the crawling tilt down a 20th century fresco while an extract of Chaplin&#39;s&nbsp;The Great Dictator&nbsp;is heard betrays the level at which Wolfe is now creating; a shot that will no doubt be referenced on the silver screen, let alone other videos.Like any great work of film, there&rsquo;s so much to unpack. And at its core, a truth about us we&rsquo;d rather not acknowledge.Goddamn. Tremendous work.

James Blake&#39;s cover of Joni Mitchell&#39;s classic A Case Of You gets an intense essay on a relationship - and the many different shades of the female protagonist - starring the luminous and compelling Rebecca Hall.&quot;This was an important video for James,&quot; says Seb, &quot;Joni Mitchell went to one of his gigs at the Troubadour in LA and when they met backstage she gave his cover her blessing. A rare compliment apparently. Out of respect for her we both felt that the film should capture the honesty and emotional depth of the song.&quot;There&#39;s a purity to James&#39; cover, so I wanted to do something simple and stripped back. One room, one actress and effectively one shot. It is basically a random collection of memories that are joined together to create a single experience. I wanted to be able to see the lighting and emotional transitions happen in-camera rather than cutting from one scene to the next, so it was quite challenging to shoot in a day.&quot;In many ways it&#39;s a mixture of theatre and cinema, so Rebecca Hall seemed to be the perfect choice given her background in both disciplines. She&#39;s an amazing actress and I knew that she would be able to create a complex and compelling character. A nod to Joni Mitchell herself.&quot;&lt;/p&gt;
