Jon Hopkins 'Singularity' by Seb Edwards
Big-hitting commercials director Seb Edwards makes a spectacular splash into the world of music videos with this epic visual blockbuster for Jon Hopkins.
A man returning from the shops into his dimly-lit housing estate encounters a woman like no other. For a start, she floats from the sky and then lures him into bliss with warm eyes, alluring movement and sheer physical magnetism. But then she starts to reveal another side to her nature - and her superhuman strength.
Part dance piece, part-superhero film, part psychological drama, Edwards takes us into a self-contained world in which everything is at the service to the music - the characteristically pulsating electronica of Hopkins' Singularity - and its achieved brilliantly. It has clearly been a labour of love for the director, and its a sheer joy to watch.
“I've always loved Jon’s work and we've been wanting to collaborate for a while. Singularity is such an incredible track, its merciless intensity somehow reflects our troubled times. I wanted to capture the feeling of defiance that rises from the initial brutality. The track is ultimately about acceptance and finding peace in nature. I hope I did it justice.”
