In a 20th anniversary celebration of Christina Aguilera's classic ballad Beautiful, Fiona Jane Burgess delves into what is plaguing the youth of today in a series of striking tableaux that focus on the threat of social media and 'influencer' culture on the wellbeing of the impressionable young.The video starts with a series of children blankly staring at their phones, their eyes lit up by their phone screens. Burgess brings each character’s insecurity to life as the camera pans from different perspectives. Young girls stare at themselves in the mirror, covered in cosmetic surgery incision lines, not convinced by the song’s powerful lyrics.&nbsp;But ultimately, as with Aguilera's classic song, this is ultimagely a message of hope.&nbsp;The video ends with a powerful shot of kids playing hopscotch and climbing trees. This in turn has created an online world which can be as positive as it is volatile. And more than 80 percent of 10-year-olds are afraid of being “fat.” This is heartbreaking. This needs to change. Aidan Zamiri directs a brilliantly offbeat promo for&nbsp;Obongjayar.Stepping into the middle of a pitch black studio, with an expectant audience watching on, we see the artist flex his muscles and nod his head to the beat, as each of his biceps reveal a set of lips.&nbsp;The surreal vision of displaced, lip-syncing&nbsp;body parts proves too much to handle for most of the audience, as they each walk off apathetically, later recalling the event and questioning what it means. But one girl falls in love, and spends the rest of the video embraced with him.&nbsp;We've come to expect a certain surreality from Zamiri, and this video amps it all the way up, whilst retaining a sense of reflective poignancy which contrasts the absurdity of the concept.&nbsp;

The interconnectedness of the concept is highlighted by the use of the same shots to end one video and begin another, and a separate vignette suggests this will be the case for the third and final promo as well.&nbsp;The arresting imagery is stripped-back yet very effective, and remains open to interpretation.&nbsp;"Promised Love (Part 2) was truly the most humbling process to trust and believe in this vision," says Rianne White. Rianne White directs the first of three visuals for London-based&nbsp;Winnie Raeder's new EP, with&nbsp;a minimalist and near abstract piece for The End Of Me.&nbsp;The video explores connection and comfort, visualised through two pairs of hands entangled in twine, attempting to reach each other and free themselves from their binding. Rianne White explains that the idea came from the clarity&nbsp;of Raeder's delivery of her music.&nbsp;"Winnie has a sound that grants you access to your inner world and has you locked in a dance with yourself as you feel every word and note of it," she reflects.&nbsp;"We spoke about connection, feeling uncomfortable, playing with the nerve in the song - a place where you can be both fearless and vulnerable, consumed by a gas leak effect of your own emotions. Let’s sit still, and really feel it."The focus upon this symbolic imagery, and infusion of emotion perfectly match the downtempo track. Sigrid takes on the space-time continuum in&nbsp;Femke Huurdeman's dazzling video for It Gets Dark.Sigrid is in a very playful version of outer space, incorporating gorgeous, retro-influenced costumes, ingenious set design, and projections and other in-camera effects, in a consciously studio-based set-up. She connects with her surroundings in numerous ways - and in numerous outfits: sitting on top of worlds; exploring alien environments; observing speeding stars from her space rocket cabin, and then growing&nbsp;Alice-style in relation to her room.&nbsp;It's the second collaboration between the Norwegian pop star and Huurdeman, following the acclaimed video for Mirror last year, and with that experience behind her the Dutch director&nbsp;really plays to Sigrid's&nbsp;strengths as a performer on camera.The wonderful art direction&nbsp;(by Laura Santos) and wardrobe&nbsp;(by Ahida Agirre)&nbsp;come with the unmistakeable&nbsp;imprimateur of CANADA, Huurdeman's production company home. The attention to detail is marvellous, which contributes to this being an irresistable showcase for Sigrid and a very cool song.This is a triumph that's really a credit to&nbsp;everyone involved. Gabriella Kingsley directs a dynamic performance promo for the team-up of ArrDee and Aitch.&nbsp;The long-awaited collab between two of the UK's top grime artists takes the form of&nbsp;a face-off in War,&nbsp;as we see the two battle it out on Arrdee’s home turf, on a&nbsp;beach in Peacehaven, near Brighton.Cleverly playing upon the UK press and fan noise of the two being alike -&nbsp;and trying to turn them against each other -&nbsp;there are no actual battles in this video... rather a meeting of minds, confidently doing what they do best in front of some breathtaking backdrops.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]"I was so excited about this brief!" says Kingsley, "I came up with her idea, delivered the treatment, and sold everyone on it in less than 24 hours."Setting it in Arrdee’s hometown was so important, and playing on the 360 shot of the likeness of Aitch and Arrdee brings a nice nod to the noise around the two rappers being 'alike'.&nbsp;I wanted the music video to slowly build up the conflict throughout, both surrounded by their armies, but with a modern-day aesthetic that stayed true to them and the culture they represent."I loved the idea and couldn't be more pleased with how it all came together. Major thanks to the team and label for all the hard work and collaboration."
