For his&nbsp;video for Odesza&#39;s All We Need,&nbsp;Canadian director&nbsp;Kevan Funk&nbsp;uses&nbsp;the track for serious dramatic purposes. It&#39;s the&nbsp;story&nbsp;of&nbsp;a drug-addict couple,&nbsp;played by Drea Bird and Jesse Haddock,&nbsp;whose swings from&nbsp;extreme highs to gut-wrenching&nbsp;lows are characterised by the presence and absence of the sweet, blissed-out&nbsp;music.&nbsp;&nbsp;It&#39;s arguably a controversial way to promote the song, but in his hard-hitting depiction of the couple&#39;s cycle of despair, Kevan continues to build his reputation. This comes after a number of excellent videos for Canadian bands, and for Danish artist <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/04/22/ane-trolle-ribbon-arms-kevan-funk" target="_blank">Ana Trolle</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Currently enjoying an exclusive on the Nowness video channel is Vincent Haycock&#39;s monochrome beauty for London composer/producer Raffertie&#39;s stirring Build Me Up.Shot in the South Central district of Los Angeles, Vince has documented the lives of the three Mays brothers, with their family and friends as co-stars, with outstanding cinematography by Evan Prosofsky.&nbsp;Vince told Nowness: &quot;One of the aspects I liked most was the idea of turning the breaks in the song&rsquo;s structure into natural pauses for the voice-overs, a musical element was still required here though so I composed some extra music derived from the choral backing vocals.&quot;

A relationship falling apart is at the core of Young Replicant&rsquo;s video for Bonobo&rsquo;s First Fires, featuring Grey Reverend on vocals.
At least that&rsquo;s how it seems at first, in YR&rsquo;s first video since their Chained video for The XX. Although appearances may be deceiving in this quietly gripping video that features some memorably contrasting set-pieces involving fire, not surprisingly, and water.

"We wanted to create a fluid environment that would capture the viewers imagination and distort their perception in way that they would be intrigued," says Mark &amp; Joe. Toddla T and Roots Manuva have got a potential hit on their hands with Watch Me Dance, so they get the slightly tongue-in-cheek pop video treatment from Rollo Jackson, in which Roots is a loveable fish out of water witnessing the fitness of his artfully-attired dancers, but still just about maintaining his focus.
"I had a pretty open brief - the use of colour was going to be key, especially in the light of Toddla's previous video that was black and white," explains Rollo. "I was really keen to make something abstract and unreal that I could insert Roots' performance and Toddla's cameo into, something that used colour but with a refined 'matte' palette rather than overblown glossy colours normally associated with pop videos. 
"In the same way I wanted the dancers to be slightly unreal, robotic almost, for the attention of the viewer to be drawn to their movement and shape but not in a typical 'sexy backing dancer' way that you so often see. I was also really keen to construct something that was slightly confusing visually using in camera techniques rather anything done in post. 

"They also made the costumes and introduced the slightly Bauhaus element which complemented the roboticism of the dancing I wanted. The choreography followed suit and needed to be mannequin-like rather seductive, hence drawing attention away from their real skin colour / body shape. One thing I definitely learnt is that all over body paint takes A LONG TIME!"

An abandoned shopping centre in North London was ideal location for Stuart Birchall's intense and cinematic promo for The Qemists &amp; Enter Shakiri - notwithstanding the rotting food and inevitable pigeon infestation.
"Working with the Qemists was a great experience," says Stuart, "All I ever look for in a project is a creative free hand with artists and labels that have ambition. The project was a challenge on all levels, but when you get a great result it reflects the effort and dedication of everyone involved."

The Qemists' Take It Back (feat. Enter Shakari) by Stuart Birchall

Forget Avatar, here's an old-school stereoscopic 3D fest - and the second video in quick succession on Promo featuring a ViewMaster - for singer Andreya Triana, incongruously performing at an old-fashioned family knees-up. 
It was directed (and produced) by Keith McCarthy, who was one of the winners of the BBC New Music Shorts award last year for his treatment of Florence's <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2009/11/13/bbc-music-shorts-florence-the-machine%E2%80%99s-dog-days-are-over-by-keith-mccarthy/" target="_blank">Dog Days Are Over</a>, and shot in Kilburn's Working Men's Club.
"This whole production was pulled together on whiff of a budget and shot on two Canon 7Ds," says Keith "The props were the catering, the extras were the club's staff. The frozen sausage rolls were accidentally uncooked, and there was only one case of food poisoning."
