Luke Logan-Malik's video for Cian Ducrot explores the distinctively Irish tradition of the wake, in his video for All For You.The singer-songwriter's song is a plaintive tribute to a loved one who has passed away, and Logan-Malik's film unpicks the layers of grief on an important day, with an authenticity that comes from having a non-professional cast who were seelcted for their own personal experiences of having recently lost someone close.[imgtoken data:1]<blockquote>I did a deep-dive into the traditions of how the Irish handle death.&nbsp;</blockquote>"After a run of car commercials, this project came up at just the right time," says Logan-Malik.&nbsp;"I was craving some human-led stories, and I think that urge probably dictated my approach to this film."The brief asked for an idea based around a wake, so I did a deep-dive into the traditions of how the Irish handle death. After spending way too much time reading old diaries and obscure folk tales, it was clear that I wouldn't need to use too much poetic license, given the wealth of iconography at hand.[imgtoken data:2]"So the approach was all or nothing, we cast three leads based on their genuine, recent experience of grief, which made for an emotional and sensitive casting process. More than a few tears were shed."We shot across three days in and around Cork, the most hospitable of shooting locations with the nicest of people. A small crew of three kept things agile, and as we were shooting in the cast's actual homes, it allowed us to be tactful and intimate in our approach. The whole experience was a reminder of why we do this - to tell human stories and find ourselves in unexpected places, with proper people."

Joao Retorta explores the connection between people and possessions in his quietly devastating visual for the American composer/performer Stephan Moccio.The video for Moccio's solo piano composition Halston&nbsp;is set&nbsp;in a&nbsp;Lost Property Office, where a solitary officer on the nightshift diligently records newly arrived belongings -&nbsp;photos, books, wallets, spectacles, passports, toys, and more - archiving and photographing each item.&nbsp;The viewer is invited to reflect upon&nbsp;the people who have lost these treasured possessions - who are represented in the film as anxious voices enquiring after lost items on the office answering machine.[imgtoken data:1]<blockquote>I was interested in the question of what the objects we leave behind say about ourselves.</blockquote>Retorta and his director of photography Fraser Rigg create a cinematic atmosphere in this setting with subdued and subtle lighting, complimenting the art direction by Louis Simonon, and allowing&nbsp;the plaintive&nbsp;refrain of Moccio's Halston&nbsp;to flourish&nbsp;as an emotional soundtrack to the human stories that accompany each object.&nbsp;And the understated performance by Linda Edmonds as the lost property officer provides a&nbsp;focus for the sense of loss and loneliness evoked by the music."I was interested in exploring the question of ‘what do the objects we leave behind tell us about ourselves?’," says Joao Retorta.&nbsp;"This setting works as a vehicle for us to look at these items and question their previous lives and owners,&nbsp;and how they&nbsp;came to be lost. I wanted them to work as small windows for something bigger. Something that is down to the viewer to fabricate."[imgtoken data:2]This is a&nbsp;real&nbsp;departure from much of Retorta's&nbsp;previous work in music videos. But the contained nature of the idea and the setting&nbsp;allows some magic to take place once the viewer is drawn in. Most importantly, it allows the cinematic emotion of Moccio's music to flourish."At its core, the video is about human experience," Retorta&nbsp;continues. "I wanted to create something that subtly explores life in the city by looking at the objects that its people left behind. Hopefully I achieved it to some degree.

This introductory short film to the new musical project Who We Are -&nbsp;directed by London-based Australian&nbsp;directing duo Novemba,&nbsp;making their&nbsp;music project debut - explores the everyday heartbreak of being a parent and the deep complex emotions lurking beneath the surface.A creative collaboration between music, film and dance, this is fully realized by two debut Who We Are songs as the short film’s soundtrack – Book At Bedtime&nbsp;and Daydream&nbsp;– as well as Novemba’s signature visual style and enthralling choreographed performances by Dickson Mbi.[imgtoken data:1]Taking place in intimate, familiar settings, the overarching focus of the short film is on the unique pieces of raw, emotional expression from two individual characters: a father who is grappling with the difficulties that come with being a newly single parent, separated from his infant child; and a mother who faces unbearable tension and hostility from her teenage daughter, played by Chloe Hearn.It's a powerful two-parter, with outstanding performances by the dancers, deftly directed by Novemba.

Zhang &amp; Knight's video for&nbsp;Meryem Aboulouafa establishes a distinctive mood all of its own - part-Arabic, part-surrealist - to create a wonderfully evocative video for the Moroccan singer-songwriter's song Deeply.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The staging&nbsp;is a stylish set, based on an architecture&nbsp;of courtyards and quadrangles found in North Africa and across the Mediterranean,&nbsp;rendered in serene pastel shades. But within the quadrangle, crowded with people, there is another square&nbsp; - a hole into which dancers teeter and then fall...&nbsp;&nbsp;Aboulouafa is the elegant centre in this haunting&nbsp;scenario, who eventually looks into the hole and reveals its otherworldly secret. The first video by Hannah Palumbo and Linden Feng&nbsp;- aka Zhang &amp; Knight - since joining Birth for French representation is one of their most exquisite.&nbsp;

Faced with the issues of enforced quarantine in making his video for Marcus Mumford's version of You'll Never Walk Alone, Nicolas Jack Davies turned to Zoom - possibly before most of us had heard of it -&nbsp;and&nbsp;pioneered some principles of the current phase of remote directing. Crucially&nbsp;the end result,&nbsp;with Mumford performing with Reuben James from their respective homes, has real emotional impact.Mumford's recording of the classic song - best known for its associations with&nbsp;Liverpool FC - preceded the onset of the Covid-19 crisis, and its purpose was always to support causes close to his heart: The Grenfell Trust and War Child UK. But the fact that Mumford and James had to rig up the camera set-up themselves, as per the directions of Davies and DoP Edgar Dubrovskiy, certainly adds another layer of purpose to the project.It was also made feasible by Davies' longstanding relationship with Mumford, that goes back to the very early days of Mumford &amp; Sons, and resumed last year after a long hiatus with the music video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/12/10/mumford-sons-blind-leading-blind-nicolas-jack-davies/62296" target="_blank">Blind Leading The Blind</a>, from the band's recent album Delta.&nbsp;Dubrovskiy also worked on that video, as did editor Liam Bachler, who does a fine job here with the ebb and flow of the creative process, where the usual separation&nbsp;of 'BTS' and 'video' disappears.

Polish-German director Aldona Kwiatowski makes a notable music video debut for this track from Elderbrook's debut album. It's a story of a brief encounter, featuring&nbsp;Charly Clive and Tamica Thompson.The video for Numb&nbsp;explores the introspectiveness of feeling alone,&nbsp;and the delight of friendship - which turns out to&nbsp;be fleeting, or at least temporary.Clive's character is distinctly alone,&nbsp;as she prepares for a night out, and then walks through the streets of Shoreditch. But then something happens when she connects with another woman, and develops a non-verbal bond, through dance. It's a charming device to demonstrate the growing&nbsp;chemistry between them, delicately handled by&nbsp;Kwiatowski.&nbsp;And there is room to explore the possible history of the relationship, which has a poignant ending.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Marcus Mumford delivers the emotion at the heart of his band's new track Blind Leading The Blind through a cathartic performance on the drums, in this&nbsp;intense yet reflective video directed by Nicolas Jack Davies.Shot whilst the group were on tour in Bangkok, the industrial&nbsp;laundry setting works perfectly, ensuring Mumford's performance is&nbsp;the sole focus for the duration of the video.&nbsp;Edgar Dubrovskiy's use of super-slow motion creates snapshots of the action - shot on a Phantom 6K -&nbsp;allows the viewer to ponder these heightened emotional moments and the setting. And the further use of strobe lights creates a frenetic and exaggerated energy which Marcus Mumford thrives in. And ultimately this is all about Mumford's powerfully physical yet emotional&nbsp;performance.The video is the result of a renewed collaboration between Mumford &amp; Sons&nbsp;and Davies - formerly of directing duo Fred &amp; Nick, who directed much of the band's visual output&nbsp;for their first two albums. Having shot the band performing the track at ACL in October, Davies has now directed a strongly cinematic accompaniment to this powerful track&nbsp;- pure&nbsp;in its concept, and executed very well indeed.[imgtoken data:1]
