Huse Monfaradi directs a splendidly vibrant, and wittily retro&nbsp;live visual for Declan McKenna's Be An Astronaut.&nbsp;With a single line of silver glitter drawn on his face, the indie-rock prodigy sets aside the more heavy surrealism seen in his official videos, and goes all-in with a dynamic live performance of old school glam rock.&nbsp;Paying homage to iconic artists in the genre - particularly Hunky Dory-era Bowie and early Elton&nbsp;-&nbsp;the&nbsp;track is visualised through a lively and unabashed performance from McKenna, backed up by a handful of equally animated, and appropriately&nbsp;styled&nbsp;musicians.&nbsp;The location is excellent too, toeing the line between derelict and palatial. And Monfaradi's canny use of camera&nbsp;and lenses seals the early '70s vibe,&nbsp;and works well in the themes of dreams vs reality that run through the lyrics.&nbsp;

Michael Cumming, best&nbsp;known for his TV comedy work like Brass Eye and Toast Of London, and his commercials, makes an auspicious music video directing debut for George Ezra that pokes wholesome fun at some of the absurdities of the music industry.The video for Pretty Shining People mocks the pop machine process, with George trying to win a recording contract by performing for&nbsp;a bunch of jaded record execs - all played by kids. They then want to turn the distinctive singer-songwriter into a pop star, by making him smile and dress and dance just like everyone else.Can George win them over by being true to himself? You better believe it.Ezra certainly has a knack for this sort of&nbsp;self-effacing, gently satirical comedy. It&#39;s served him well before&nbsp;- including a recent&nbsp;turn on Reeves and Mortimer&#39;s brilliant&nbsp;Big Night Out - and it does so again here.&nbsp;&nbsp;

If you could go on a date with anyone living or dead, who would it be? Alt-J made their picks and that became the basis of Young Replicant&#39;s science fiction dance film.Acting on behalf of the band, a machine in a subterranean bunker chooses Sylvia Plath, Lee Miller and Anne Boleyn, or at least it chooses their memories. Projected through small glass discs we intercut between these haunting, animated dance scenes (choreographed by Darcy Wallace) that are given a personality based on a computer&#39;s understanding of history.There&#39;s a detached, uncanny valley element to the clip - Alex Takacs aka Young Replicant&#39;s second for the band&#39;s current album, after the brilliant&nbsp;<a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/04/18/alt-j-3ww-young-replicant" target="_blank">3WW</a> earlier this year &ndash; as these renditions of historical figures live again for a fleeting moment before fading with the light of the projector.

Nick Knight&#39;s video for Kanye West&#39;s superb&nbsp;afro-glam-rock mash-up Black Skinhead is here &ndash; following their collaboration on the New Slaves video (presented as a series of &#39;guerilla&#39; outdoor projections a few weeks ago) and much of the visuals surrounding Kanye&#39;s Yeezus album.&nbsp;This is, perhaps predictably,&nbsp;an intense experience&nbsp;- and minimal. A CG version of&nbsp;Kanye performs the song against black (after that first shot of KKK-like hoods in black). He&#39;s&nbsp;initially lifelike (with more defined abs) and then becomes more extreme and digitally messed-up as it progresses. 'Perfection' by Ian Bonhote

For Dancing Pigeons and Diesel:U:Music, Tomas Mankovsky has conjured up this extraordinary, eye-popping, extremely dangerous duel of fire and water, played out by a couple of gibbering redneck idiots at a sumptuous one thousand frames per second. And that's got to be worth a few minutes of anyone's time.
In particular this compellingly lurid clash of the mental midgets features what must be the best bit flame-throwing footage since (I'm slightly guessing here) Arnie was in his pomp. It's the result of Tomas and Artem, his SFX team, custom-building their own flame-thrower. Nice.
"Duels fascinate me," says Tomas. "It used to be a popular thing, but in modern days it has died out," "So I thought that probably somewhere in the States, some hillbillies are still doing it, their way." 
He says that shooting almost entirely on the Phantom camera at 1000 fps threw up its own difficulties. "Since we shot at high frame rates we needed a lot of light, but I wanted to shoot it at night, which made it dif?cult. And on top of that, the main element in frame was a huge ?reball that was really bright. Adam Frisch, the DP, did a great job." 

Shooting in camera was a conscious decision to create a more real and visually striking ?lm. "It was dif?cult to know how this shootout would look like in superslowmo. We did some tests with a gas-?amethrower but the ?ame was only 2-3 meters and it looked quite bad in slowmo, so the special effects guys had to build a new ?amethrower from scratch. 
"They made one with liquid fuel, and that one was much better, ?ring out 10-15 meter ?ames. But the ?rst time we saw how the ?amethrower and ?re extinguisher looked and behaved in slowmo was on the day of the shoot."
