Alex Courtès&#39; new Cassius video is all about intriguing, ingenious, and ironic visual juxtapositions: stock shots from the&nbsp;commercial mainstream are spliced &ndash; horizontally and vertically - with deeply contrasting, graphically connected images to create a constant flow of striking combinations.&nbsp;It all starts with the Earth becoming the bottom half of a pile of tagliatelli. New Division signing William Laboury has made an auspicious debut video for Bonnie Banane - as unsettling as it is beautiful. &nbsp;For a start the object of Bonnie&#39;s affections is a thing of weird beauty: a wax-like male dummy, created for medical purposes. Then things take a grisly turn, revealing the dummy&#39;s anatomical correctness. A very stylish and sexy horrorshow.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Let&#39;s not mince words here: Helmi has made an incredibly brutal video and mission statement for French rapper Ichon.Fils de Pute &ndash;&nbsp;which translates as &quot;Son of a bitch&quot; &ndash; has a physical narrative that you certainly don&#39;t need to be fluent in French to follow. Based on the turbulent relations between police forces and people of colour worldwide, the video sees Ichon sat in a chair in a police station - chained to the floor. He&#39;s on the receiving end of a line of questioning that quickly escalates into something physical and violent. We watch on in horror as one cop brutalises Ichon whilst the other passively watches.&nbsp;We&#39;re reminded that this isn&#39;t fiction as we see names and pictures of young men such as&nbsp;Eric Garner and Abou Bakari Tandia, who all&nbsp;died while in police custody. And then, very suddenly and graphically, there&#39;s a twist in the tale.Masterful special effects, camerawork and fight choreography really help to sell the impact of this video. A fearsome, brilliant piece of work.

Emile Sornin is back with a video for The Shoes&nbsp;that&#39;ll possibly make you think twice about that cheeky Nando&#39;s you&#39;ve been promising yourself.Or maybe not. 1960s Horror starts with the grisly truth about the poultry business, the huge industrial scale of chcken production and consumption - which of course includes the terrible, shaming treatment of the poor creatures.&nbsp;Then it gets even more extreme, a prediction of the next stage of mankind&#39;s&nbsp;greed and stupidity.And then comes the revenge - which is sweet, but also tastes of chicken...&nbsp;&nbsp;It&#39;s Chickenzilla!

Luis Cerveró has directed this dazzling and cryptic&nbsp;pot pourri of&nbsp;tongue-in-cheek scenes, characterised by visual art, anachronistic&nbsp;lavishness, a bit of&nbsp;absurdity&nbsp;and number games.&nbsp;Whether it be the band playing to a highly&nbsp;unusual crowd, a hand rolling the dice, a girl&nbsp;spraying &#39;PRICKS&#39; on a wall, or painters&nbsp;showing their outsider art, each scene is part of a&nbsp;repeating structure that loops throughout, corresponding to an&nbsp;exact metric pattern and creating everchanging dialogue with the song.It&#39;s also very cool. And in explaining his work, Luis Cerveró says: &quot;This video is about predicting the future, writing bad graffiti, blurring identities, sliding doors, playing live with fake drummers and framing moustache portraits. In Fleur and Manu&#39;s ambitious, layered, cameo-littered epic for&nbsp;A$AP Rocky&#39;s Everyday, we follow the irrepressible Rocky&#39;s career in reverse - from a point where all that lavish living has definitely caught up with him.Bloated, used-up, and face-down in a pool, Everyday (which samples Rod Stewart&#39;s vocal from In A Broken Dream)&nbsp;tracks an old rapper&#39;s past through flashbacks which see him popping prescription pills and going under the knife to retain his fading looks, becoming unrecognisable. Rod (who has looked after himself)&nbsp;makes a brief appearance too, and Mark Ronson, as this whirlwind of scenes of partying, drugs and girls reveals present-day Rocky in all his current gorgeousness.There&#39;s a&nbsp;&#39;money can&#39;t buy&nbsp;happiness&#39;&nbsp;message in there somewhere, but Rocky still comes out as more of a carpe diem&nbsp;type of guy...&nbsp;

Thomas Rhazi&#39;s video for Alt-J&#39;s Pusher takes its inspiration from a great British democratic tradition of soapbox politics, and sends it into a dark,&nbsp;bleak place.As the camera circles an expanse of open ground a man climbs onto a box to begin to speak to the assembled smattering of homogeneous raincoat-wearing men. And as the circle tightens, the man becomes more passionate, and then desperate...As with previous videos from Alt-J&#39;s second album This Is All Yours, band frontman Joe Newman was involved at the conceptual stage of the Pusher video. And his&nbsp;involvement which has allowed Thomas Rhazi to reach for his powerful, thought-provoking,&nbsp;unquestionably bleak climax.&ldquo;The original idea was Joe&#39;s one,&quot; says Thomas. &quot;It was about a guy breaking his neck in a very poetic way. We spoke about the British Speaker&rsquo;s Corners&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;all those men and women in the late 70&rsquo;s preaching for their own reasons and beliefs.&quot;I wanted this film to be very humanist and as deep and simple as it could be.&nbsp;The hero does the most excessive act because he can&rsquo;t do anything else&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;shaking up people&rsquo;s minds in those dark and sad times&rdquo;, says Thomas.[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]

Loïc Andrieu has worked as steadicam operator on some of the best videos coming out of France in recent times. But now he&#39;s taken the directing reins himself to create this scintillating visual spectacle for Keffer&#39;s Rouge, in which&nbsp;a diverse range of intensely dramatic scenes are linked by the actual or impending presence of the red stuff.&nbsp;A&nbsp;stricken girl by her Fifties car; Samurai warriors preparing for a duel;&nbsp;a knight in armour fending off the enemy; a naked girl covered in blood wields a machine gun... In each case, Loïc establishes a gripping moment, cutting between each vignette and allowing a little more information to reveal and alter perceptions.It&#39;s a tour de force, clearly a labour of love, and grips like a vice&nbsp;&ndash; culminating in that wave of plasma gushing around the spooky little girl on the stairs...&nbsp;&nbsp;

The minimalist electronica and deadpan wit of&nbsp;Tiga&#39;s Bugatti has inspired a brilliant video by Helmi - driven&nbsp;by the rhythms of the track, witty, sexy, and the complete&nbsp;opposite of minimalist. The inspirations are essentially, 80s surrealism (particularly the album cover design of Hipgnosis) and alpine sports, conflated into a stream of imagery that offers up more things each time you watch it. Great stuff - and we had a little chat about it, and other stuff,&nbsp;with Helmi...&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;PROMO: The Bugatti promo is wonderfully surreal and provocative.&nbsp; What inspired it?HELMI:&nbsp;Merci. The Bugatti music video was inspired by Tiga, love for the 80&rsquo;s and the new wave. I love working within the universe of the artist so I began to read and watch everything I could on this period as well as the references. It&#39;s more &laquo;pop&raquo; culture than a specific period. I took inspiration from everything I found cool. For me it&#39;s one of the most interesting parts of the job and of course the internet help&rsquo;s a lot. ;)&nbsp;You&rsquo;ve already developed a unique style which is apparent in all four of the videos you&#39;ve made at Division in Paris.&nbsp;Who/what have your influences been so far?My influences are all the 90&rsquo;s music videos I watched as kid. That&#39;s what makes me want to make music videos. All the Gondry, Spike Jonze, Chris Cunningham... All these masters have influenced me!What do you hope to achieve over the next year?&nbsp; What are you currently working on?My prospects for the next two years.... To just have more and more fun on each project and meet new cool people. I&rsquo;m writing and testing new concepts but if &laquo;I tell you I have to kill you...&raquo; :) &nbsp;Your ideas are fresh and contemporary - so do you feel frustrated that some artists/labels are more inclined to &lsquo;play it safe&rsquo; with their choice of videos? &nbsp;Has this affected your work?I&rsquo;m not frustrated with my ideas. People are always waiting for new things and sometimes its a good time and sometimes you are too early or even too late. I don&rsquo;t feel any pressure by the label or artist if they don&rsquo;t like an idea. I can&rsquo;t force them but I have to find a better way to sell my ideas. It&rsquo;s amazing when you are on the same page as an artist. This is what happened with Tiga. It was just perfect to work like this...Is there a particular musician/artist you want to work with soon?I would love to work with Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Notorious BIG, 2-Pac, Amy Winehouse, Freddy Mercury, Elton John...&nbsp;But more seriously I would love to work with&nbsp;top charts artist&nbsp;like Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Daft Punk, Kanye West. Maybe one day! I&rsquo;m listening to a lot of The Arctic Monkeys, Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus... The only important thing &nbsp;for me is if I like the music then I&#39;ll do it, no matter the artist. Except one... ;)&nbsp;Has there been a&nbsp;director who&#39;s work you&#39;ve particularly admired this year?&nbsp; What&rsquo;s your favorite video of the last twelve months?&laquo;Movement&raquo; by Fleur&amp;Manu and also &laquo;CHANDELIER&raquo; by&nbsp;Daniel Askill and Sia. Thomas Rhazi, recently signed to Division in Paris, has directed&nbsp;a slick and soothing&nbsp;video for Hawk House&#39;s &#39;Chill Pill (Experiment 2)&#39;, where the camera&#39;s smooth front to back motion is exploited as the real becomes surreal.The level of detail allows this simple premise to work, combining performance by this new old school&nbsp;hip-hop combo and fine art direction and (of course, as its a French-made video) well-executed VFX.&nbsp;

It&#39;s a brave thing to give the brands and the bling&nbsp;a bit of a&nbsp;slapping in this day and age, but Helmi gives it a go in his video for&nbsp;Bonnie Banana feat. Waltaa&#39;s Champs Elysees. It&#39;s a satire on the materialism that pervades modern youth culture - and a brilliant visual bombardment to boot.&nbsp;The aesthetic is street culture, with a heavy nod to the 90s. But most importantly Champs Elysees - both song and video - is all about the importance of appearances,&nbsp;and how it quickly turns into materialism and vanity. And drugs.&nbsp;Interestingly, Helmi and&nbsp;Bonnie and Waltaa developed the song and the visuals at the same time - a very unusual process, but highly effective. Chronicling runaway consumption with hard video FX works a treat. And appropriately the song that says &#39;everything&#39;s for sale&#39; is available to download for free, on weirdata.net.&nbsp;
